Pretty sure it was a Shepp/Benalla ressies grand final in 2005. The Magpies injury toll couldn't be any worse than Seymour's, but they mightn't have the depth to cover such big losses - long way to go yet and I'd expect Gleeson's boys to get it on track by the time we hit September.

Yep, the Doon's right; Benalla beat Euroa in the Prelim in the Scoobies last year.
That said, the Maggies appeared to really fancy themselves in the Twos this year (or so the chatter before the game against Seymour in Rd 1 indicated), suggesting they'd further strengthened their list.
140 points is a lot.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Watched my first (full) Rochy game yesterday and they were fantastic, defeating a more fancied Mansfield. After kicking 4 goals to 1 in the opening 15 mins, Rochy looked pretty good. However, Mansfield is a quality team, kicking 7 goals in the 2nd quarter to be ahead by 3 goals at half time. The last half was good footy, although marred by scrapiness and lots of turnovers.

With a couple of minutes to go and Rochy trailing by 5 points, Nathan Whipp took a mark on the wing, handballed to Sam Brennan, got it back and then kicked a goal from 50m. The ball was bounced in the middle and Mansfield cleared it, but kicked it straight back to Whipp. Fantastic game of footy.

Re: Official GVFL thread

With the injurys that euroa have had this year and there so called cockyness, how far is Nathen Gilliland away from playing !? and on injurys whats the word on swannies recruit Josh WILSON, when is he likely to start his season !?

Re: Official GVFL thread

It seems that we all have the same conversation every week in regards to euroa and their injuries. Bottom line is, they have a large number of big name injuries and are not winning games. Depth or no depth, if they want a spot in september finals, those L's need to be replaced with W's asap!!!!!!!!

Yer Euroa will obviously get some quality players back but how much damage is going to be done by then? Possibly miss the finals or sneak 6th & it's pretty hard to win it from there.
I actually think Rochester could press for a finals spot yet their behind the eight ball but a win such as yesterday against Mansfield will do wonders for their confidence.

Re: Official GVFL thread

I see the bears snatched a win over the cats on the weekend. From what i hear the cats went into the game thinking that they were already world beaters. They will need to be on the job to challenge the lions at the den this weekend.

Whippy what a bloody legend!! Typical rochy win, lets hope we see a few more before the season's end.

What Happened to the Magpies, in the seniors, on the weekend? How many did they have out? Big suprise!

Brad Campbell sitting out the 2nd half with a sore back and then playing with 16 after two blokes were sent off wouldn't have helped the Cats one bit

Re: Official GVFL thread

That is an unbelievable win by Benalla on the weekend. The injuries must be running deeper at magpie land then what we think. Can anyone from magpie land shed some light on what transpired at memorial oval on saturday. Would be interesting to see what they think went wrong and where they are going to show last years form at all. Another loss to Kyabram this weekend would almost put the finals out of reach. Pretty hard for a team to come back from a pounding like that on their home turf. I believe they are gone this year, cant see them even making the finals. Might be a team of stars on paper, but they dont seem to gel as a team from looking at the score over the last few weeks. There might be bigger problems then just injuries, who knows? Anyone?

Are Benalla that good is the next question? Did they have a full team bar Symes at full forward.

Mooroopna failing against the bears is also a suprise with the way they have been playing of late. My prediction on the cats is if you stop big Singh you can beat the cats. They dont have to many other options up forward. He kicked a bag ful in the 1st half and Mooroopna were flying. Well held in the 2nd half and they lose.

Good to see Rochy on the winners list.

I reckon Seymour would be quietly confident going back to back this year. Stood upto every test this year and still have a swag of stars out.

Re: Official GVFL thread

wondering what peoples thoughts are on Matt Sharp, was a star in cgfl at 17, is he up there in the gv? would he be in the leagues best 22, not the interleague but the actual best 22

swans boys believe to see him at some stage later in the year. has a foot injury or disease not sure? has been on the track only 1 or 2 times this season.
swans players are a bit unsure of his football ability, but judging by size and "flair" can play a bit! one things for sure, hes definalty a big unit, so if he is a muppet on the field, will be good for a bump or two!
keeping the swans all entertained off the field... a livewire in that department!

Brent colbert was on the western bulldogs list from 2001-2003. Injured his thumb and was out for 10 matches which was one disspaionting thing for him as he may have been able to have a real crack at AFL. When delisted he went to the northern bullants and now.. here we are with him carving up at GV level.

I agree, although you can't write Euroa off completely, and they have obviously been unlucky this season, there is only so many more games they can lose before they are a real chance of missing september action..and I'm not sure if they'll have a good match up for Newman, or not..so this week is another danger game for them..the comp is so even this season that you can't pencil many games in as 'certainties'..

I also agree that Seymour are looking the goods for going back-to-back, they have a similar amount of players on the injury list as Euroa do, and have passed each test they've faced this year. They're purring along nicely and still have a lot of room for improvement..

Can't bouch for the whole night, but it was a great atmosphere in the social club rooms after the game. With dirty having a smile from ear to ear. The win didn't seem to phase the little whippit too much though, was more phased with how his footy bets went thoughout the day I think. he he. :) I did however notice that the great-man was still carving up the OPT dancefloor in the wee hours of sunday morning, so he celebrated the win in true style.

Does that mean that the rochy scummer that you are made your way to what you have quoted as "scumville" on Saturday night/Sunday morning..........:D

You know that simpsons episode where homer gives the ticket guy at the movies a picture of bart so Bart isn't allowed into see itchy and scratchy movie? I think I might have to give the bouncers a picture of you so you can't get in to OPT after all the terrible things you have said about the fine establishment that is OPT!;)

No half descent team gets beatin by that much unless they have no passion or pride in the jumper they are playing for. Sounds like they are weak mentally, if they let all the injuries get to them that much.

I think everyone who find it hard to play for the passion of the town or pride of the jumper when half the team trains 140km down the freeway, when are they gunna learn that home town players will play harder then money-scabbers when a team plays on pride
