Re: Official GVFL thread

The Oswalds have been vey busy!! What is the go with the Tat coach-is he staying?
Malcom will be doing the Tat gig again. The doggies are on a very big recruiting march. A re-shuffle of the board is all they need. Rohan Block is a big part of the reason some local talent left the kennel. With him gone, getting the club back to glory years will be a step closer. A fair few steps to take though!

Who is Rohan Block and what did he do to cause the exodus of some players over the past few years?

Re: Official GVFL thread

I take it the forward coming back to play with his brother is Damian Yze??? If so the $300 max per game theory is out the window!
Who are the 2 brothers coming from the o & m... would it be the Oswald brothers from Yarra??

yes you are right half time lollies. Damien was on big money last time he was at the club although he knows what the deal is now and just wants to play the last years of his footy with his brother.
Yes the Oswalds have been busy.
I can't see the oswald brothers going to tat though. Its between 2 clubs at the moment and Tat isn't one of them

Rohan Block was on the board. Im not going to go into detail on things he has done, but him being in the position he was in, along with Moose getting shafted had everything to do with players moving on.

Who are the 2 clubs uwish?? Is Marcus McMillan part of that package??

Re: Official GVFL thread

Echuca and the Swannies at this stage. we'll know by the end of next week. haven't heard if Mc Millan was part of the deal or not.
Also heard that the 3 were talking to Shepp Bears. Seems as though they are trying to shop themselves around as a package. The Oswalds would be very handy in the GV but can't say I've heard a lot about McMillan.

Re: Official GVFL thread

What ever they come with, it needs to be proactive, it has to preserve the standard, if it's some thing that makes it impossible to lure players from the metrop and district leagues then the league will go backwards and another one of the district leagues may start down the same path. I woulds 1 day hope that 1 of my boys is able to venture back down south and try his hand at GV and experience what Vic country footy is like at a top standard. The footy up here is OK in standard but clearly lacks the passion and support of a whloe town that players down there experience. Talking to the Euroa pres not that long ago, i could sense his exasperation, when explaining how hard it was to (a) lure players to the club (b) generate the turnover that is required to run a successfull club. Clubs have become buisnesses and if you pay more than you earn and don't get productivity for your dollar you go out backwards. The VCFL and all NSW footy admin need to step in and help get the paying punter in through the gate to help generate the revenue.
i look at what is happening in the minor leagues around the gv and any wonder clubs cant compete. there is some great names running around the likes of kdl (walker, best, gray, mason, now finn) pfl (osborne, brunt etc)and they should be playing in the gv or equivalent. all gv teams try and recruit some big names but it is pointless if you dont already have the core there. tat and ky are pushing it up hill because they currently dont have a core of locals playing for them. i think some players around the area maybe need to test themselves instead of, what i think is happening, playing for coin in lower leagues.

Gray has been playing for his hometown whilst Brunt wanted to coach. Brunt has returned to Tongala as an assistant coach for 2008. Finn decided to follow Burdett who wanted to continue his coaching career which is fair enough. I think the decision to apoint three coaches was farcical last year and that decision would never have a happy ending. The big question is will Newman stay????

McMillan is the best out of the 3. He is probably around 6'3 and a very mobile CHF. Played half of last year with West Adelaide before coming back to play in a premiership with Yarrawonga. Would do very well in the GV.

Newman is staying Ringo. Happy to play under Dirty and especially with Burnett and Finn going he is standing by the club. You may want to ask Hank though what Newmans plans are for the future?

Right Guy for the job

Guy Campbell is the first big off-season arrival to bolster the Echuca playing stocks with the Murray Bombers confirming his signing yesterday.
Campbell joins Echuca from Murray Football League neighbour Echuca United after a host of offers from Goulburn Valley Football League clubs.

A former rookie-listed player at the Sydney Swans, the 195 cm Campbell also spent four years at the Bendigo Bombers in the VFL.
"I watched Echuca during the Goulburn Valley finals and enjoyed it. It was the right time to move across," Campbell, 25, said.

"I'm looking forward to playing footy with mates. I won't be an assistant coach like I was at Echuca United.
"The offseason has treated me well so far. I've been doing a bit of boxing and slowly getting back to full fitness."
Campbell said with Rhys Archard ready to take the field and other recruits in the wings, the future was bright for the Murray Bombers.

"Our aim will be to play finals," he said.
"We want to take it up to the likes of Seymour and the Shepparton Swans."
Echuca finished sixth in the Goulburn Valley league this season but made an elimination final exit to the Swans.

Coach Steven Orr said Campbell was an ideal signing.
"I've known Guy for about 10 years now and we have a good bond through footy," Orr said.
"He's a key part in where Echuca is heading as a club.
"I first met him when he was reaching the end of his junior days at Echuca and we played in a premiership team in 2002."
"The opportunity to play in a flag doesn't come around often," Campbell said.

"It's good to be back working with Orry because you don't forget any of the guys you play alongside in a premiership."
Orr said Echuca was still negotiating with players and hoped Campbell was not the last name to sign.
"We're not about older recruits," Orr said.

"The best thing about Guy is the good football he has ahead of him, the average age of our team stays low.
"His experience and knowledge will be invaluable to the rest of the team, especially the younger players coming up through the club."

`Hardest decision ever'
By Richard Goodbody

Former Kyabram coach Paul Burnett has admitted leaving the Bombers' hanger was the hardest decision of his life.
Earlier this week, the star onballer ended his nine-year association with the club when he was appointed to Lancaster's top job.
Despite seeking a second term at Kyabram's helm, the 33-year-old was recently passed over when the Bombers signed former Rochester coach David Williams to a two-year deal.

During a candid conversation yesterday, Burnett said he had stewed over his playing future since learning of Williams' appointment, before making the agonising decision to cut ties with the Bombers after he was approached by Lancaster.
"It's been the hardest decision of my life, not just my football career," Burnett said.
"I always thought I'd finish my playing days at Kyabram.
"I'll eventually go back to Kyabram, even if it's just as a supporter, but at the moment I want to coach and Lancaster has given me the opportunity to do that."

In a major coup, Josh Finn, who shared the coaching responsibilities with Burnett at Kyabram this year, has agreed to an assistant's role with the Wombats.
The slick onballer, who will form one of the Kyabram District Football League's most explosive midfields alongside McNamara medallist Andrew Thomas, five-time best-and-fairest winner Corey Carver and Burnett, will link up with the Wombats in the coming weeks.
"It's great to have Josh onboard," Burnett said.
"If he wasn't coming, I wouldn't have left.
"But to know he's going to be there with me is great news."

Despite finishing a disappointing eighth last season, the Wombats are a traditional powerhouse in the KDFL and will look to boost their playing ranks during the coming months.
Burnett admitted he had spoken to excitement machine Troy Mitchell, who last played for the club in 2006, but the century goalkicker remains non-committal.
"I've had a chat to Troy and he's yet to say yes or no," Burnett said.
"I think he'll wait and see what our list looks like before he decides one way or the other."

Rounding out the Wombats' appointments, premiership coach Matt Carver will again lead the reserves, while Stan Varcoe has retained his position as coach of the thirds.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Ive heard a couple of Seymour boys are heading to South Cairns , Ratray is all ready up there and Matty Okeefe is heading up.

Have they named a coach yet up there? Haven't spoke with SJ for about a month or so but I was under the impression he has other football roles up there now that prevent him the time to coach South Cairns.

Mate spoke to SJ on Monday, and he has agreed to stay on again next year at South Cairns . He has been appointed coach of Queensland to come down here and Knock us Vics of next year [ fat chance of that ] and he thought with the commitment of that job he wouldnt be able to coach Souths.

Once again this one has come up!! Every year this seems to show its ugly head.

I don't think this is ugly, as most of you would know Paul's family has had strong family ties with the Tongala FC with his grandfather winining something like 5 best and Fairests. I am sure at some stage of his football career he will play for Tongala, whether that is next year or not I honestly do not know. Until he does come across I am sure the club would be not doing its job if it didnt make contact with him every off-season to see what he might be doing. So You Know It, if he doesnt come across next year you will have to put up with this showing its ugly head every year about now until he does.;)

Makes me wonder why he'd care what family members before him have done at other clubs.
