Having a little peekaboo...that's right I said it.

11th for the Eagles in career Brownlow votes with 44. Paul Symmons is in 42nd place with 12 votes.

2015 Shuey had 7 votes
2014 Shuey had 9 votes
2013 Shuey had 5 votes

5 out of Parker, Sloane, danger, ward/coniglio, bont, gawn?, Merrett, Dusty, (treloar or pendles), shuey... going to be close. Surely you would think Danger wins.
It's always closer than you think. Look at last year. Priddis nearly beat fig jam even though fig jam was unbackable and the bookies had paid out on him winning.

Geelong will struggle to vote well in the last month where as we have been winning with Shue dog playing top footy.
He will come home strong.

Priddis the known umps favourite tho, may take a season for Shue Dawg to transition into the favourite mid from the Eagles.

That's why I like Gaff top 5.

I havent seentoo much of essendon but i have seen peiple say that merrett isnt damaging. Shuey doesnt rack it up but a value for possession type like bont and sloane.
Merrett is a great player. Something about his game reminds me most of cousins than anyone else ive seen

Yes but he's my favourite and that's worth a million brownlow votes. :rainbow:

There's something in this I reckon. Fyfe, Ablett and Swan were all deserved winners, no doubt - but they were also among the favourites and would've been worthy winners the season before they won it. I think sometimes a player needs a bit of publicity before umpires really start to notice them.

Hope he wins it though. I'd started to think he was in the reckoning last week, then Saturday prompted me to put a little bit on each way when he was at $81.

Stats on their own aren't always the best indicator for Brownlow votes. All year, Shuey has hit the contests with courage and fairness, and he rakes in the free kicks. I don't think he's the talk-back type, either. I'm sure Pridda has helped guide these facets of his inside development, and I'd be on him for a high finish.

How much did you get for a place?

Exactly. All of us agree that Shuey is the best West Coast midfielder this season by a fair margin, yet Dennis Commeti has Priddis on the interchange in his All Australian team. FWIW, I don't rate Commeti as an analyst (last Friday night he said that Dyson Heppell is a great player who they, Commetti & Co, have missed seeing this year; now Heppell is your typically overrated Melbourne based player who is good but can hardly be called a great player) but the umpires could be thinking along the same lines too.

I don't agree with your assessment of Heppell, but now we're getting into the semantics of what 'good' and 'great' mean.

This is off topic but just to clarify, to me "a great player" is somebody who can be placed with the best players of all time and I just don't think Heppell is one.
All semantics, innit. For me there is a difference between a great player and a great of the game. Yolo.

Mark LeCras is a great player and is not one of the best of all time.

Rory Sloane is a great player and is not one of the best of all time.

Best of all time conversation has to to start at elite at the very least and work up from there.

OK may be it is. Just didn't think too many 24 year old players can be termed great unless they have done something significant.

24 is just about the time most midfielders start playing their best footy. A lot of the best players hit their straps at around 22. Heppell is a gun.

Heppell is a good player but I rate Shuey and Gaff higher and they hardly (Shuey mainly) get the same accolades. This is not relevant to the thread so I will just stop there.

Though all the talk has been about Dangerfield being a dead certainty in the second half of this year I'm quietly confident Luke Shuey should be able to give the Brownlow a shake tonight. He may not win it but I'm hoping he gets the recognition for the remarkable season he has had.

Regardless let's post our Brownlow discussions in a thread on the Shuperman.
