But then again, I don't understand how this talkboard, which was friendly and interesting when I first started posting on it not so long ago, now contains nothing but schoolboy squabbles about the bloody Melbourne Storm and a SoO series in which NSW have had a bit of a tanking. Do you realise what children you appear to be, to someone looking in from the outside, FFS?

I realise passions run high, of course. But the cheap slanging matches going on that pervade every thread have pushed all talk of the game we profess to love right out of the window.

I doubt it's coincidence that the number of posts on all threads seems to have dropped off drastically lately. Doubtless other posters are voting with their feet, or waiting until people start talking about rugby league matches again.

Great point Moto. We all should get back on track....though that may take some time, so try and be a little patient.

On Origin III, I am very disappointed that its not being shown live into afl states. Back to the good old days again.

Hey, I'm looking forward to SoO3 too. Presumably as NSW have nothing to lose, they have licence to take a few risks and shake it up a bit now? Surely they'll give Soward a game? And they might as well play some attacking centres too.

I heard Soward's coach (Wayne Bennett) today suggesting they (NSW) should leave things be and perhaps look at him for next year. That seems odd to me, you'd think they'd want to throw some new players into the mix. He's in great form and if I was a selector, I would be picking him for this Series.

215k on delay into Melbourne. Fabulous result.

Hey hey it's Wednesday rated 338.

That's an excellent result considering it was 2 hrs. 10 mins. on delay.:D

Ch. Nein are just simply dumb, blind and stupid.
I bet if it was on live, it would have nearly cracked 400,000 as most people were expecting NSW to bounce back.

more ammo for the IC to take to the tv rights table...say bye bye to Origin channel 9

I agree, though its a winner for Ch.9 regarding ratings and they wouldn't want to lose Origin.

But it was really a dumb move on Ch.9's behalf not to show the game live into Melb. and I personally know their switchboard went into meltdown by complaints....so they tried to appease rugby league people here in Melb. by dropping the news after the afl footy show and went straight into the nrl footy show.

what a horror draw the storm are in the midst of. with trips to adelaide, perth and aucland in quick succession during and straight after origin, this wouldve beena defining period of the season.

i'd be interested to know how many people are expecting to aami park in two weeks. cold hard reality of a pointless season will have well and truly set in. the 'solidarity/we wont be discouraged' fans will feel as though theyve made their point, and futility wont put arses in the seats.

will they reach the lows (in terms of crowds at least) that the doomsdayers predicted 10 weeks ago?

The Penrith game will get a decent crowd because of the opposition, free family passes given to members for that game and the Collingwood vs Richmond game on before across the road.

After that, not sure, think we'll still average 10,000. Don't know about everyone else but I would still go along and enjoy watching the likes of Slater, Smith, G.I, Cronk etc.. in trial games so of course I'll still enjoy watching them this season. Still can't wait till next season though.

Good post.

We have a great bunch of loyal supporters who love the club and will ride this year out. Thru the good and bad times as they say.

Mate, Justin and I were talking about maybe doing Geyer room for the game, you interested?

$65 for members

Yeah i'd be interested, would need to book pretty soon though wouldn't we? Probably be popular for the first game. I'd need to check with my mate whether he is going or not..

I would have watched it in full had it been live, but to be honest I struggle to watch non-live sport of any kind. It's pretty much the first Origin game I've missed watching in full, ever (used to come into the casino to watch the games live in previous years - before that was in NSW).

To be honest I don't watch channel 9 for any other reason, so they can just get ****ed.

Auckmel,

Had to do some digging to find this thread put thought I'd bump it for a refresh.

In 2011, the TV ratings for rugby league in Melbourne are showing signs of the novelty factor wearing off.

The Storm rated about 37,000 live on a Sunday a couple of weeks ago (previously 90k in 2010) and then the RL test v NZ on Friday night rated 86K in Melb from approx 220K last year.

The Port v Hawks game, one considered of low interest got 353K in Melb on Friday night.

The Swans have suffered a similiar problem in Sydney once their bandwagon stalled and the novely wore off.

RL Origin has event status these days but I wonder if the ratings will also slide?

And the swans ratings on 10 for the last 2 weeks have been 27k and 26k, what's your point?

Also, is 37k better than those numbers?

And how do the swans numbers stake up seeing as they are advertised non stop every day on TV radio and newspapers compared to the storm who got 1 game played on a Sunday and 9 only decided to do it 2 days beforehand?

Give yourself a triple.

The thread is titled Melbourne loves rugby league. The Swans ratings are relevant how? Swans game are simulcast on Foxtel and the 27K I think for the Carlton game was achieved when 28K turned up at the ground.

Back to the topic nuftie.

Ah of course it was. Forgot it was in Adelaide.

I just wonder how many may have started with the test and flicked when PA/Hawthorn started.

I actually don't think 86 up against FTA Aussie Rules is all that bad. About a quarter of the number for the footy. Reasonable imo
