Re: Cameron Schwab: "We'll do whatever we have to do to get the four points"

What can be done here? One of the Laws of the game states that a game isn't over until the umpires hear the siren. It doesn't matter when people in the coaching box hears it, or when the players hear it, if the umpires don't hear it the game is still on. I can't see Freo getting anywhere because common sense isn't exactly the AFL's strong point. All the AFL will do is review a better way for the umpires to hear the siren.
Well the umpires still haven't heard the siren buddy. It was only blown once. They only stopped after people invaded the field.

In page 36 of the rule book though it states that the siren should be continously sounded until the umpire call time.

could be a loophole.

I say good on them but I honestly think it is a waste of time

I thought he sounded like a giggling fool who didn't know the rules.

Thus describing your good self. Hayden Kennedy heard the siren and went to the controlling umpire who flat out ignored it. The siren went. The fact that the players jumped up and down and the Saints had given up should at least tell the umpire to blow time off (which would've been redundant) and consult with everyone.

This isn't just a misunderstanding. There's more to it than a dodgey call on all parts, something is definately wrong with that umpire and I'll be damned if I let this one go without a fight no f*** off because quite clearly you are biased in your opinion, like myself, but at least I have a fair clue not to discriminate because I have something against the other side.

in the past the AFL has made decisions on what the majority think is the right thing to do to cause as little drama and negative media attention as possible so therefore i still think it could be over-turned as i think pretty much everyone apart from st. kilda believe it shoud be over-turned

Re: Freo willing to go to court.

Its about time someone takes the dictatorship to court. Come on freo do it for us non victorians who like to see the Vic-centric VFL be torn down and replaced with a new board from all states and the hq being based in a non victorian city.

And move the Grand Final away from the horrid MCG while we are at it. Nothing will please me more than seeing victorians loose their game. Oh when that day will come i will be dancing on the grave of the vfl and drinking champers.

Fremantle CEO Cameron Schwab has said Fremantle are willing to take this issue to court if they are not awarded the extra 2 points.
Why are you starting numerous identical threads?

I thought Schwab's attitude was fantastic. Completely rational about the situation, and made it clear he's not going to cop being pushed around. If we don't get the 4 points, I want to at least know that the club could not have done anything more.

This is their decision. As a Saint supporter I'm more than happy to see the result stand. If I were a Freo supporter I would not. That said, the behaviour of those accusing the Saints of cheating and those abusing Tassie is completely irrational and they need to examine their motives.

A court case consumes a lot of time and energy, could prove a huge distraction for Freo and could ultimately leave them worse off. Maybe instead, they could use this as fuel to ignite their season!

The siren only went once.Everyne else heard it including Hayden Kennedy. No other siren has sounded since.

Hayden Kennedy has to come under scutiny for this. Not withstanding the 10-1 free kick count in the last QTR to get the saints back in it (people can watch the replay and see all the soft ones awarded one way only), when informed about the siren he waved the players away and bounced the ball.

The timekeeper said he thought the umpire had acknoweded the siren.

He then proceeded to give Bakes yet another shot at goal.

Not a good look.

I didnt. I started one quoting Schwab saying they want their four point, at that point it was unclear whether they were willing to go to court. Then he confirmed they would be, and i started a thread based on that.

Re: Cameron Schwab: "We'll do whatever we have to do to get the four points"

would they be able to win a courtcase before the finals are played? it would be a hoolow victory the it was announced in october that freo won the game.

I imagine it would be dealt with very quickly.

Re: Cameron Schwab: "We'll do whatever we have to do to get the four points"

Absolute joke, ump was Kieran Nicholls, and if it is a draw then surely if the AFL are serious about this result then Connelly should be fined and suspended for entering the playing surface during the game. And the free was for not passing the ball back, um why should the ball be passed back when there's no initial free?

1. Who said Kennedy or any other of the umpires heard the siren? If one of them allowed the game to be played out when he should have had the guts and professionalism to signal "game over" then it should be "game over" for his career. He'll probably be PROMOTED to the Gietsch's job instead.

2. The "free" was for a late bump on Baker who acted as if his head had been caved in (and naturally the umpire fell for it). Baker then elected to cancel his previous kick and take another shot for goal. Some justice was done- he missed again.

Another sad case of the bungling super mario brothers of the AFL and their faulty towers umpires stuffing up.

The rule as I have always known it is ridiculously contradictory.

1. Game ends when the siren sounds
2. But only when the umpire calls it.

Does this mean umpires need better hearing aids. Surely with modern technology and microphones they could not possibly stuff this up...or could they???

Lets stop stuffing around and do what the great Ron Barassi suggested many years ago. The game ends when there is a break in play after the siren resulting from the ball going out or smothered.

How much simpler can it get??
