Sounds like a good deal tigers!!
Can anyone give a quick run down on Morris and what sort of player he is?

Also does anyone know why he wasn't picked up earlier? Injuries or just a late bloomer?

There are some footage links somewhere on the board here. He's a running back pocket type, but who seems to love a good physical contest as well.

Had a knee reco I think around the time he would've normally been drafted. May also be a case of a late bloomer at the same time. Has had a very good season for West Adelaide, a few raps for him coming out of there.

Do we see him as a rebounding defender ala' Lids who wanders up the field to provide assitance and direction. Or as a nuggety lockdown back-pocket who sticks to his slippery small forward like glue and isn't worried if he has only 6 posseions as long as his man is quiet.

I want the lock-down backpocket Morris, what do others think?

I believe from reading people who have watched him play that he is a bit of both. A decent kick and run, but is your lock down defender type.

It seems that this trade is a go with us not nominating him for a F/S pick today.

From what I heard it seems that only 3 F/S submissions were made today with Mitchell/Syd, Bews/Gee and one more which I can't remember being done.

Papers here are reporting that the Power were all set to use their second round pick on him.

Not sure if serious santa? We are practically getting a free player. If we nominated him F/S and Port bid a 2nd rounder we cant back out and do a deal with GWS. Odds are Port told Morris what they would bid.

lol look ive had time to settle down a bit and wont criticise them. i will say though how many times have they come out and said we would have taken so and so if he lasted just one more pick. im just keeping the buggers accountable.

i dont agree with down grading 1st rounders under almost any circumstance. our processes should be targeted for the reverse. in this case i can see why we have done it but it will be interesting to see who gws take at 14.

just an aside port could not bid anything until we put a bid in ourselves if we had nominated him for the f/s. its likely once we put a bid in they would have let it be.
for the last two or three yrs one criticism that has been aimed at those in charge is we have caved in and panicked when going after players. i could name the players if you like but dont want to derail the thread.
14 for 15 i can live with and if it doesnt bite us on draft day which is unlikely i will congratulate them.

now that we have pick 15 how about we go back to the well and offer them pick 15 and jackson for pick what 7 or 9.

This is something you simply don't know santa. By doing what we have, we have secured the player we want and only gone back one spot in the draft. Even if we had've played hard ball with Port and they didn't bid, we were still giving up our 3rd pick. We have lost virtually nothing.
I am for you keeping the buggers accountable, but this is just keeping the buggers accountable for no reason at all.

Actually this is wrong.

What happens is we nominate him as f/s, and then the bidding from the other clubs starts. Once the clubs have done their bids, we get the chance to match the highest bid. If we match, we get the player. If we don't, he goes to the club that made the highest bid.

It's also wrong to say other clubs will let him go cheap just because he is f/s. The swans won't be trading their first round pick for one reason, they need it for their f/s. Everyone knows Mitchell is a gun, and just about every club would take him with their first round. Swans know this means they will have to use theirs to keep him,but they are happy to do that because he is that good.

When declaring a father son you do not declare a pick, all richmond has to do is declare their interest. Then other clubs place bids. obviousely GWS pre listing of players takes priority over father/son (which is a tad wrong) getting morris the way we did is the track richmond has gone down, dont think we even declared father/son at all. we must of got word that port would use 2nd pick so we traded instead.

absolute win win situation but yet there are sour grapes people out there who now go 'wah, wah, wah, we gave up one position in draft pick. pick 14 will be a gun and our pick 15 poor, wah, wah, wah'.

So sick of people comparing draft picks and bringing up old what ifs. get the f*ck over it. There is no way to know that who GWS will draft at 14 may of been our man, anyway they could now take that person with an earlier pick i.e 11/13 or whatever around that and grab another target at 14 who we didnt want.

Personally...i like the modus operandi of the whole morris deal with GWS...

Totally unexpected...came out of left field...and has a touch of ruthlessness about it that appeals to me...

Bet PA...if they were really interested in Morris...are still trying to work out WTF really happened here...

Talk about being gazumped...i like it!...and am looking to the draft period with interest!...

Maybe Port weren't that interested and were prepared to offer their 2nd round just to screw us.
Just like they screwed GWS as soon as they were aware of GWS' intentions to draft a couple of players Port were letting go.

Maybe it was Port who were dealing with GWS.
Perhaps they had a deal where they'd force the Tigers to trade with GWS by feigning interest in Morris.
