From todays HS about O'Meara and Tippett
This is for the Jon Ralph article today, either he or Bluey are reading the Bigfooty forum I reckon
BRISBANE
THE Lions could end up with a clutch of draft picks, great in normal circumstances but not ideal in a shallow draft.
They already have an early first-round pick at eight, a compensation pick at pick 27, and then their second round pick at 31.
They could add another first-round pick for Mitch Clark, who now seems almost certain to get to Fremantle.
It is a bitter blow for the Lions to lose Clark given he is entering his prime, but the horse has bolted.
With Jonathan Brown only having a handful of years left, the perfect replacement would be Kurt Tippett.
Gold Coast might struggle to fit him into the salary cap, and Brisbane is likely to have room and the picks to throw at him.
They butchered the Brendan Fevola trade, but Tippett is younger and a more solid citizen.
Lions football manager Dean Warren admitted an interest recently.
''He is a Queenslander, he is obviously an exceptional athlete and he is becoming a terrific player.
''With Jonathan Brown entering veteran status over the next couple of years he would be a perfect succession plan for Brownie. We need to explore it.''
The Lions could get a late pick in exchange for Luke Power from GWS, but know they need to recruit young kids and just force-feed them games.
GOLD COAST
THE Suns were linked early to Adelaide forward Kurt Tippett, but at this stage they seem more intent on luring more young elite talent into their list.
Tippett won't come cheap, so they might instead choose to use their pick 4 on Perth teen Jaeger O'Meara, one of the 17-year-olds GWS can trade off for picks or players.
If they got him in it would give GWS all of picks 1-5 this year, and allow the Suns some breathing space in their salary cap.
They know they will need it given Victorian clubs are certain to launch raids on their many first-year players who come out of contract next year.
Only a handful have already extended their contracts - some like David Swallow and Zac Smith.
But there will be a queue to have a crack at players like Trent McKenzie and Josh Toy.
Rival clubs know pick 4 is a special offer for O'Meara, but some like Hawthorn and Fremantle seem intent on at least finding out what the price is.
Please let it be so.
