Pretty stiff to suggest Donahue be delisted. Has only been on our list for 2 years? Give him a chance. The others however I tend to agree. If we could get anything for Lonergan I'd be happy.

Tis a bit harsh however I struggled to come up with another name instead. We've got to make a certain number of changes so at our club someone will always be unlucky and a bit undeserving when delisted.

Indeed, it will be interesting to see whether the club is agressive in attempting to trade fringe players (Lonergan etc) or GC impending-ness makes them hold on to such players.

If Shirley does get delisted it won't be a great surprise. We're really struggling to come up with the minimum 3 delistings without him. We really don't have much in the way of "list cloggers" at the moment, having cleaned house fairly thoroughly over the last 3 years.
  • Gill & Gallman are dead men walking.
  • None of the 4 veterans look like retiring and Doughty definitely deserves (and is contracted for) another year.
  • The rest of the list is basically untried kids - the next most likely departures are 2nd year player Aaron Kite and 1st year playe Tom Lee.
Right now Shirley is on the very edge of our best 22 - he, along with Douglas & Reilly, has largely been playing by virtue of injuries to those ahead of him in the pecking order. We have Doughty & van Berlo who are both capable of filling the tagging role, with Sloane looking to force his way into the side in 2010.

Shirley's fate will be determined by the outcome of trade week. If we manage to open up 1 or 2 positions on our list (most likely by trading Griffin and/or Douglas) then he'll probably get another contract. If not, then we'll probably wave good-bye and wish him well.

The Crows will probably only be looking to make 3 or 4 changes to their list this year, given the weakness of the draft. We'll only be taking 2 or 3 draftees, plus the upgrade of Brodie Martin upgraded from rookie list.

Even with these minimal changes the mathematics is becoming very difficult to justify retaining Shirls.

Would would Adelaide want in return for Douglas or Griffen?

Would love to get our hands on a small crumbing/tackling forward in the mould of a Davey/Rioli.

I suspect we'd be looking at a player for player trade. The recruiting manager (Matt Rendell) has openly stated that this draft contains only 30-35 players of interest to the Crows. The effect of this is that draft picks ain't worth what they usually are - a late 1st rounder this year is probably worth a mid-2nd rounder last year, a late 2nd rounder this year is equivalent to a 4th rounder in any other year. A 3rd rounder this year has no value at all.

Given historic precedents, I'd definitely be expecting a 2nd rounder for Griffin. I'd prefer a 1st rounder, but his injury problems (which have led to a lack of performance since mid-2008) have probably put paid to that.

Douglas is right on the fringe of our best 22. He's probably ranked about 23rd-24th on the list at the moment. This means he gets a game pretty much every week, as the Crows (like most teams) rarely have all of their best 22 players available. With 50 games under his belt he's definitely proven that he's capable of playing AFL footy - which in this draft means that he's worth a 2nd rounder at worst (noting previous comments about the draft depth this year).

Make us an offer of a player trade and you might get a nibble. He would definitely be on the table if the right offer were to appear.

I presume Ivan Maric is now off the table after some interesting times with Craig earlier in the year?

I guess we'd be interested in:

Lachie Henderson (dropped and not even an EMG on Saturday night)
Leuenberger/ Maric (yes, I KNOW - no chance)
Thorp (Hardwick connection)
Nick Gill
Albert Proud
Beau Waters
Will Schofield
Morton (Haw) - maybe
Salopek
Armitage
Crowley
Scott Simpson

From our side:

Cleve Hughes
Kel Moore
Thursfield
Raines
Tuck
McMahon
Pettifer
Adam Pattison
Schulz
Matt White
N Brown (I reckon he might play on)

Lots of other spuds to choose from!

Thus, we probably won't pick up anyone. Adam Campbell looked OK I recall, but it was against us...

Either way you still wont get nothing for him as you delisted him.

Not much space given to the Saints on this thread so far.
J. Allan to retire. Already has.
Max Hudgton to retire.
Delistings
L.Fisher.
LJ Connors
For trade
Matt Maguire.
Rookie promotion
Zac Dawson. Possibly Blake McGrath.

UTG absolutely zero chance of securing henderson or the berger (as you have acknowledged) . Both extremely talented and rated highly by the Lions. Integral to our future. Henderson will fill a key position post as early as next year (CHB) or FF once Bradshaw retires- likely to be the end of next season. Would read nothing into his omission from Saturday nights first final.

Proud, whilst i hope he stays due to the hard edge he brings to the table, would be a more realistic target as the club has publicly stated he is not guaranteed to gain a new contract for 2010.

Players may have been told that they will be delisted, or that they won't be getting a new contract, but as of now they're all still officially on the respective lists.

They don't get delisted until the 1st or 2nd of the list lodgement dates, both of which are after the conclusion of trade week. Thus, players who have been "delisted" can still be traded.

Was reported on Channel 10 news last week (Perth) that there is talk that Leroy Jetta is homesick and would like to come home to Perth. The Eagles could really do with a small forward with his pace and skill! As mentioned, he still has a year on his contract, so trade might not be done this year. I would want to leave Essendon if Michael Quinn was getting a game ahead of me too  would love to see Jetta at the Eagles!

Except for the fact that Jetta is not all that quick. Why does everyone make the unrealistic and incorrect assumption that all indigenous players are fast?

I wouldn't be trading anymore than a 3rd round pick for Leroy Jetta. He hasn't impressed me at any stage, despite the hype surrounding him in 2006. I'd pick him up as a rookie. The Bombers should be doing all they can to retain him.

The Yarran rumour on the other hand... I'd probably give them pick 7 for Yarran.

Gibson reportedly walking out on the Roos and Lovett seeking a trade from Essendon (deja vu?)

Also, saw in the Age that Pettifer and Hughes have been told by Richmond that they're not required. Can anyone confirm?

Could not imagine lovett leaving Essendon. Was curious to get some opinions on Luke Ball fter he was again dropped this week surely would be a big name on the trade table

He's one of the quickest at Essendon. There's some sprint stats floating around showing him about top 3 over 20m and 100m sprints.

For some reason doesn't look it on game day. I personaly think he's got it in him to be a great small forward just seems to be a slow developer. Probably confidence issues. Look at Leon Davis, he was rubbish until he hit mid-20's.
