Would you take O'Meara in the draft/PSD even though he's nominated Hawthorn?

I don't know how posters can say Hawthorn can't afford players etc. I never realised salary Cap figures were pu lic knowledge? A number of our younger AND older payers have taken unders for success.
O'meara and Mitchells contracts will be heavily back end loaded IMO.
They will get a big pay rise once the current veterans retire.

Don't be surprised to see this bloke also in the brown & gold next year lads ... Offer has already been made, being seriously considered

Heavily back ended deal my Tulla friend ... You'd think Hodge, Burgers & Gibbo ... potentially Mitchell would be finished end of next year ... then there is PLENTY of space!

Free Agency working at its best. Cant wait for the media people saying 'this is what free agency was introduced for' when any half-wit knows that it makes the strong teams stronger. 99% of players will go to the better club to win a flag. This weak ass twerp isn't willing to do the hard yards to win a flag, would rather ride on the tailcoats of Hawk superstars to win one.

I wish there were clubs out there who played hardball and don't let the little weasel get to where he wants to go. Make him go through the draft and end up at Essendon or Brisbane. Like GWS last year with McCarthy. Sick of young players getting what they want when they haven't earned it.

The players want free agency, then fine. Let the clubs control them until they are free agents and then see them go running scared. Players union ruining the game all for more $$$.

thats bulldust ever the same ****in story carlton said same thing in 90's

Can't hate Hawthorn for being at the best at what they do, the challenge is to every other club to better and have a point of difference. I'm a massive Essendon supporter but realistically in his mind what can Essendon offer that the Hawks can't? A great facility perhaps (not sure what the hawks is like).

Hawthorn can turn around and say hey we are the best in the business come play finals and let's get you a flag son.

Suns have said players not picks
The picks are just a reference point for trade worth, so pick 16 could just be for GC to get Harlett for example, so a essentially it could be something like..
Hawks give Freo Hill and GC pick 16. (Hartlett)
Freo give GC pick 3.
GC give freo pick 20.
So GC essentially get pick 3 and a quality player (Hartlett) for jaeger.

This is nothing to do with free agency, he's not a free agent.

The salary cap isn't big enough for offers from shit clubs to be more attractive than offers from good clubs (especially when coupled with promotional opportunities in Melbourne, which are increased for successful clubs).

Hartlett is on a contract bigger than the one they offered Jaeger and has never delivered on his promise. I don't think they want him.

Oh it would be hilarious

The man love for Fyfe combined with the hatred of the Hawks
We might just see everyone check themselves into a nuthouse

Veterans list/ played 10 seasons (cap concessions)

Hodge
Mitchell
Birchall
Lewis
Burgoyne
Gibson
Roughead

Potentially plenty of cap space....

JOM's contract will be heavily back-ended I'd say. As Hawthorn retire their vets in anticipation of a rebuild in the next 2-3 years, some (but not a huge deal of) cap space becomes free, allowing O'Meara to be paid his full figure.

Land Mitchell + Fyfe in the next 12 months and eyebrows should be raised, however. Only the most radical of list overhauls would leave any club legitimately in a position to land three bona fide superstars (remember that those you mentioned are on reduced salaries).

Has a lot to do with free agency. This has allowed the players the power. AFL clubs should have control of the players up until they are free agents to stop little bitches like O'meara determining where he wants to go. At present any player out of contract can nominate where he wants to go and 99% of the time they get there because the clubs have no power.

brilliant. only one slight problem there. That trade, while convenient for the hawks sees freo give up pick 3 for brad hill and pick 20.

At least lube up a bit next time

Yes but this was the case before free agency was introduced. He's not a FA and so he can't select his club in that GC could ignore his Hawthorn request and send him to the draft. In practice, because most players are whingers and clubs are scared to risk it, they will not pick players they don't have pre-existing arrangements with, making the draft a weak threat.

Given that it's highly likely at this point that Hawthorn won't enter the draft until at least pick 14, it's very, very unlikely that they will be able to cough up what O'Meara is worth - even if they flog off Bradley Hill to Fremantle. It's also unlikely that they'll be able to convince any players worth their salt to leave a club still in flag contention.

With that in mind - if you were a Victorian-based club, would you consider drafting him before the Hawks got their hands on him? Geelong doesn't have the pick (we gave ours up for Lachie Henderson), but I have to admit I would be sorely tempted.

Yeah, because players never chose a new home prior to FA.
