O'Meara - who wants him?

Would you take O'Meara in the draft/PSD even though he's nominated Hawthorn?

JOM will go to the highest bidder and nothing else really matters. The poor kid has buckled knees will be a short career. He needs insurance $$ as his career won't be that long.

I don't think he gives a shit what GC receive. Hes just spewing his career won't be what it should have been.
I don't blame the kid.
I just hope we don't invest too much in getting him.

This. I think he's likely to end up at Hawthorn, maybe Carlton. Depending on what happens with Mitchell.
I'd be surprised if wanted to go to a club that's an Etihad tenant, with his knee.
He's a huge risk, and I'm not sure how I feel about the Hawks taking him on.
Wherever he goes, I hope his career can follow Selwood's or Burgoyne's trajectory and not Cooney's.

IMO (which means SFA), Collingwood paid overs for Treloar. He is not worth 2 first rounders, a first + second/fringe player.

By the Pies doing this, other clubs have become delusional by comparing a deal where overs was paid and trying to get the same.

I agree you know sfa. We paid a first rounder and a trade down from first to second.

Yea such a waste of talent. Although I suspect going to the Hawks might be slightly less then Carlton or anyone else just due to the opportunity.
But he's a bit of a dice roll for anyone depending on what they give up aside from the $$$.

JOM probably just looking for cash more than anything else.

The only good that can come from this saga is if the AFL finally scrap the PSD.

If O'Meara went into the ND I'd have no issue whatsoever. Take him at pick 1, pass and hope he's there at pick 19 - whatever.

The double dip potential of a club getting the best available uncontracted (non FA) player and the best kid in the country for free is a farce.

And it would eliminate about 2/3 of the annual posts on the drafting and trading board, too.

It's a hell of a circumstance that may allow it to come to that, but I understand what you're saying.

Did Burgoyne miss 2 years of footy? O'Meara has a lot of talent, but he will be an awful big risk and cost any club plenty to get him. Is he worth it?

He did miss a period of time. Reports were that his knees were shot and would not last the 3 year term.

History suggests hawks medical and fitness staff are very good at managing players and their injuries.

I always find it funny how people talk 1st rounders as if they are all of equal value.

eg. No player is worth 2 first round picks.

A pick 1-5 is 6 times more likely to be an AA than pics 15-19.

A matter of opinion which youre entitled too. We didnt pay two first round picks though, thats the myth I am arguing against.

Yes it is my opinion that more than a first and a second was overs.

It's not a bust by any stretch. He will be a great player for the Pies once he learns to run defensively.

Can tell you right now it's the love of the game over the cash

But even then, a draft pick is still a lottery ticket in a lot of ways, ALL of the kids drafted are unproven at AFL level. Clubs have gotten better at identifying what attributes to look for in determining whether a kid will go on to be successful at AFL level but there are still 1st round draft "busts" every year. When people are making statements like "Treloar isn't worth two first round draft picks" they're imagining that those 1st round draft picks are going to turn into Buddy and Roughead. Not sure they'd make the same call if you were going to get Treloar for Tambling, Williams and Meesen though (picks 4, 6 and 8 from the same draft).

I can see why Gold Coast want two picks for O'Meara (though BF logic, which I agree with, says he isn't worth it). They're losing Prestia and O'Meara after developing and rehabbing these guys. The trend of players wanting to leave is more likely to continue than stop. They need to get overs in the draft and hope that they not only get the pick right but can develop the player and then retain them. One first round pick doesn't give them a high percentage that they'll succeed, two doesn't either really but it doubles their opportunity.

Worth it for that effect alone.

Have you actually looked a the list of number one picks in the PSD over the years? I cant see any guns there that have slipped through accoriding to your version of history this century... Shane O'Bree being the best example by a country mile.,

The worthiness or otherwise of the PSD is a seperate topic but I dont see too many jets getting picked up through this...

Yeah, the 'third round + fringe player or PSD' threats each year are inane, but the potential does exist.

It's not a dig at Essendon either, if I were in their position I'd be in O'Meara's ear. The only thing they will do by trying to get O'Meara for nothing is create bad blood, it's not against the rule.

Yeah, literally, He can go to the Dons and thy will give the Suns nothing in compensation. From the Suns perspective its free.

Jaeger can literally go to the Dons for free. They don't even need to respond to GC. That's the hardest of balls and they hold all 52 cards

Post implies that Essendon could get O'Meara for nothing. It's not true. In the absence of two clubs organising a trade the price O'Meara puts on his head will still apply.
Essendon would still need to fit this payment into their cap. So not literally free at all.

He will if he chooses Essendon or the Suns refuse other clubs deals
Note my post above he already knows where he is going. If it was Essendon then he would have come out and stated them as the place he wants.
