Referring to HSmith? Just because he currently plays forward doesn’t mean they’re likely to stay as a forward

HSmith I think has 0.001% chance of making it as a forward. Maybe a 0.01% chance as a ruck
Who were you referring to as the developing ruck we have then if it wasn't Lane or Smith?

We need 2 ready to go rucks and only 1 developing. And need list spots
With list spots tight we can’t afford to develop 2 rucks who aren’t ready to go

Those are some very long odds jackess. Can I have $10 each way on that?

$10 on HSmith as a forward paying $100000?
$10 as a ruck paying $10000?

Note* my Maths may be out, I only teach year 4.

Sure. I’ll offer those odds that either will play 100 games

Yes the 2 developing rucks are HSmith and Lane.
I point again to the fact that the team is not developing Smith as a ruck, so complaining about having two developmental rucks is pointless. We have one developmental ruck and a couple of developmental ruck/forwards. Arguing that we then have too many developmental ruck/forwards is more defensible, but if you concede we need at least one developmental ruck - that's Lane unless we draft or recruit another this year.

Fact or opinion?

If Birch gets another year, me >

jackess why are you culling so hard?

We haven’t been seriously linked to anyone as a trade or free agent target.

As I mentioned in the draft and trade thread, it doesn’t look like we’re bringing any ready to go players in this year.

The list outside of the top 25-26 is a mess. No forward or midfield depth. I’d scour other teams for their depth or even their discards

We’re not getting anyone of significance this year.

No one is leaving their current team just to come here as a reserve.

It would even be difficult to convince a delisted free agent to come here on a one year contract, unless they were on decent money, as they might not have any extra coin to show for it at the end of a season.

I can make a case for taking 3 picks to the draft, maybe 4 if we can trade in the Doggies first round draft pick.

Cleaning out our list will be a two or three year project.

Doesn’t have to be significant. Just has to be better than Matho, Fullarton, Lester, etc.

we have a spot for a tall forward with Hipwood out
Hippy might not be back to late in the year.
Gives someone a go to play senior footy and show what they have.
Would not be upset if we went for Chol or Coleman Jones.
I say Chol be available.
After that go for someone like Sinclar or Ceglar.

What was Henry Smith recruited for then, to play fwd? Bizarre if thats the case; he looks so slow.

On Matho, I reckon he had a better chance of staying on the list by not playing. He's last few games have highlighted ow average he is. Great clubman and maybe he can stick around to play in the VFL, but he aint up to AFL.

Pretty sure H Smith they said still growing as well so not using so much in ruck.
With VFL ruck we had Archie, Fullarton, Ballenden and H Smith playing early this year then Lane.
Archie is backup so got 80% of ruck in VFL when played.. Fullarton club sees next in line got the rest

When Lane came in he took over from Fullarton as the second ruck.
I know most people written Archie off for next year.
Although this year he was back up for Big O.. If we played H Smith and Fullarton to get ruck into him and Oscar went down.
People be screaming

Yes does not help having 3 rucks on the list and only having one play as main ruck 80%

The idea is that we'd recruit someone better than Archie to replace him. I favour signing a veteran, although there are some others who suggest that Lane or Henry Smith should be the backup ruck.

I agree now Hippy down we look for ruck forward next year. Fullarton still young although pushed into seniors.
Although probably goes back to the Ruck rookie getting talked about
Is it better to leave them in a side in WAFL, SANFL or VFL being the first ruck even if it's the reserves side like Lane was for longer?
Or have them around the AFL team learning the craft although then rucking 10-20% of the game as your 3rd or 4th in line.
Not sure what is better for development.. When Hipwood was fit we had Fullarton, Lane and H Smith basically Key Forwards as Archie rucks 80%
We threw Ballenden back as we lacked key defenders

A Tim English type would be ideal.
