Handy depth for the next two years. Hopefully on close to minimum wage.

He is an incredibly limited footballer though. Wouldn't want too many of his type on the list.

2 years surprised me! 1 even! Very minimum wage you'd think

I think he's rare in the sense that he's happy to spend his career as a seconds player in a good team on hopefully low coin.

You can afford one or two VFL specialists in a squad.

Hopefully it is Birchall's last year at least.

He seems to know his place will be in and out of the team and is fine with it and he is also a massive piece of the fabric at the lions. Seems loved by absolutely everyone. Bought his folks a house just up from brissy this year. Will do absolutely anything that is asked of him! Every team needs culture players like this. Keeps the moral high. I’m stoked for him!

I remember he ran water for the 2s the day after a game earlier this season. If the $ are right I'm very happy with this signing.

I think thats his massive value. You often see him in the background celebrating and getting his team mates gee'd up. He is clearly a good guy in the background. Hopefully he can be a senior body adding experience to the twos and good depth in case of emergency

A really interesting move to resign Matho for a couple more years. He is clearly well regarded but there may be more to it as well. His role may transition into a leader in the twos.

I dont think Robbo is limited. He's a very good athlete. Matho isn't.
2 years gives Matho a couple more years to see if he can develop to Robbo’s replacement. Matho get’s plenty of the ball, but his disposal is lacking (as is Robbo’s with the dump kick). Give Matho time to work on that.

Robbos in the team to run up and down the winhg all day. Matho will never be able to do that

At the end of the day in order to compete you need multiple high end players which costs money, we've already got plenty of quality players in their early 20's which have either already been extended or will need to be going forward. To have Matho as someone who is happy to be good depth on a low contract for two years it's not the end of the world. Not sure where it leaves guys like Tom Joyce and Ely Smith though, particularly with multiple firsts this year and Ashcroft next year.

We are whittling away the options for delisting.

Updated list OOC-

2021:
Grant Birchall (R)
Tom Fullarton
Archie Smith (R)
Connor Ballenden (R)
Thomas Joyce
James Madden (R)
Brock Smith
Keidean Coleman
Kalin Lane (R)

IMO >

Certain to get another contract- Keidean Coleman, Kalin Lane, Tom Fullarton.

Coleman a no brainer, they wouldn't sign Lane for 6 months and then dump him, Fullarton playing now so they keep him.

Highly likely to be delisted- Brock Smith, Archie Smith.

Archie has had enough time, Brock is gone.

The rest I really have no idea what the club will do, hoping like most that Birch retires, I would like to keep Madden and Joyce... Ballenden is a conundrum.

Ely should be getting his manager to sound out another club. I'm sure we'll accomodate a trade for a token pick to get him to a club where he can get senior games.

An enforcer/muscle doesn’t have to be on a wing. Sharp and clugg have those spots down. Get him to float around, show a bit of fight when we need it!! I love the bloke and am stoked he is staying around!!!

Lester was/is a good club person and was kept on when many thought he was gone. Matho is following a similar path.

Now that's a good comparison. A lot of us had thought both of them would be delisted at various points, both kept re-signing basically to keep themselves on the team, both accept playing in the seconds but keep pushing themselves to be ready and returned to the seniors. Serious class acts.
