If they had those sorts of reservations I doubt they’d have been talking him up they way they did over the offseason. I agree he’s unlikely to suddenly turn in to a star, but from what I’ve seen he should be able to become a solid footsoldier at AFL level. Certainly the idea that he’s “Callum Brown lite” that someone else suggested is pretty unfair. He showed enough in his preseason games to make me confident enough that he’s got much more potential than that.Or perhaps the coaches, who have a much deeper and more intimate understanding of players’ strengths and weaknesses than any of us, have some reservations about Fin at AFL level and feel that he must first address some deficiencies?
I think Fin will eventually break into the side but let’s be honest, he’s no Petracca or Bontempelli. He’ll be handy but is never going to move the needle in a big way.

Agree. Coaches have a certain fondness for premiership players, but it is a new season.

Unlikely we will get Jhye Clark. Had a pearler of a game last week. He is getting a lot of midfield time & friends who know his family report he is loving life at the Cattery, still at home and a lot of his friends are local
If he didn't slip in the practice match he would have been in the 22 that started against Richmond. I think a lot of posters don't understand how footy teams work. There isn't a line and coaches thinking its this guys turn next time. Finn gets the next spot only if he is doing better than Allan, Sullivan, HH etc. When a spot comes it will be the player who is performing at that time and the coaches see as the next best. Maybe it is Finn currently but that can change in a week or a fortnight.
Your last sentence is a bit rich given the way you’ve gushed over Allan for the past 12 months.

Yep I have had hopes for Allen based on potential and always acknowledged that word is one that can turn on you easily. I think Allen has slipped a fair way also. Maybe he is going to be a player but he looked very ordinary in the pre season. I have not given up on Finn or Ed but neither are tracking like good and very good AFL mids do. You can be an exception to that but not many are.
Fin is tracking fantiscally right now pre season. Who is Allen?
When you're lucky to get 6 possessions in a game, there is more of a need to do more when you don't have the ball. But what McCreery does offer is some x factor. His grand final game rewarded the club's faith in him.
He averaged a touch over 10 possessions a game.
Think I have said enough. Hope the kids and players like Reef and Finn who are fighting for a place come on strongly.
