Stephenson placed three same game multi-bets in three separate matches this season in which he played. The bet stakes totalled $36.

The matches in question were against the Western Bulldogs in round four, Essendon in round six and St Kilda in round nine.

The multi-bets included legs on:

  • Collingwood to win,
  • Collingwood winning margin,
  • Stephenson to kick a goal,
  • Stephenson to kick three or more goals,
  • Collingwood teammates to kick a goal,
  • Collingwood teammates to kick two or more goals, and
  • Collingwood teammates to have in excess of a number of disposals.

On two occasions Stephenson gave cash to a friend to place the bets for him, on one occasion he used the friend's betting account. All bets were unsuccessful.

Would have been a tidy sum

Is "self reported" just code for "the story is going break anyway, let's get ahead of it and push for a lighter sanction"?

yep. they knew about it a while back because the dumb campaigner probably said something at training or told a less dumb teammate and they dobbed him in. they were figuring how best to go about it before a journo found out. lawyers said to say he confessed and is a good bloke, it worked, the end

it's hard to stomach what players have to do after they've done something bad

like yeah he's a moron and was getting close to match fixing territory but the press conference is like he is a mass murderer lol. funny stuff

Two gambling issues now at Collingwood.
Rancid carcass of a club.
Actually more than that sier got fined for it the other year and another player while he was at the lions

In the last 5 years 3 drug suspensions and two guys betting on afl shit club

Also got De Goey getting injured 'playing with his dog' and I think there was another incident like that.

If it was Dusty he would have copped two years and the AFL would have got the police involved.
and they would have forced Dimma to stand down as coach because he let it happen on his watch
What would a richmond player get for this same offence? Life ban? Deportation?

I think he would be living with his dad :D
