I still don't think the missed touched call is as blatant as people are saying, don't think there was anything corrupt about it, just a weird missed call. You don't expect a ball to be touched by someones tricep and it still travel 35m.

The dissent ruling tho was utter trash. the apparent comment was "you f---ing idiot". Jordan Clarke claims he said "you f-ing idiot Jordan", at himself - and the umps confirm they did not hear it entirely clearly. Even if they did and he did say it to the umps - don't be making that call if your the ump. toughen the f up mate, costing a team and their supporters a possible win over that is soft as shit

Dissent rule should be changed. Said it many times before. Should not be dealt with on the field, should be dealt with via the tribunal afterwards with very big fines and suspensions. not affecting the games in play

The problem is it was touched twice once of the boot and the second time before the mark, then it turns out the umpire paying the dissent free didn’t actually hear what was said , paid the free on suspicion , are you happy with this?

At best it's incompetence. At worst, blatant corruption.

Logically, it's probably umpire incompetence which is pretty much par for the course as at least half of them have no actual feel for the game. On the other hand, my complete distrust in anything and everything that the AFL say or do, makes it impossible to rule out corruption. This is now at least 2 games involving the scum from Princes Park where the umpires have had a direct influence on the result.

Mate that's why there is 4 of them out there now... so things like this aren't missed. And the little short people are happy to sprint in and overrule for most other free kicks, so why not this one???

only have to go back to the Adelaide v Sydney game last year and the no revision decision to confirm the CFL is in fact full blown corrupt and most matches will be & are engineered with absolutely nil disclosure, just like the state drivers licence one thinks he owns or is his/hers but actually isnt.
my point being there is no disclosure, thats all thats missing, thats the missing piece,1000's of sets of eyes cant be lying and are not lying.

the game was absolutely flipped on it's head in the last couple of minutes.... if only that Freo bloke didn't fluff the Mark and the umpires didn't have their 'look at me moment' dockers win by 8pts.

forget the botched up touched mark by Cottrell

Kennedy gets two of the softest goals in 2 minutes that most footballers would never get in their whole careers

If the umps carry Carlton to a flag this year it would be hands down the worst flag team of all time. You'd have to actually compile your own worst flag team from the history of the game to even come close to how s**t this Carlton team would be.
Dunno if I've ever seen anything like this before. From round zero the whole AFL supporter base has been acutely aware that Carlton are going to get escorted through to a Premiership this year and every week it's going to script. When does it start becoming a topic of discussion in the media? When the umps start literally kicking goals for them?

1. Walters had the footy in a dead ball situation and coughed it up. Short passed to an almost contest. Dumb.

2. Cottrell’s mark was fair enough. No umpires saw it/heard it, what can you do?

3. Freo players are entitled to be livid. Understandable that one says something they shouldn’t. Probably thought there was some method of review that could be used.

Umpire should be a bit more aware. They would realise from the Freo player’s reactions that they got it wrong and should be a bit forgiving and lenient.

Instead the thin skinned and emotionally unaware ump compounds it and gifts a win.

A quiet chat explaining to Clark the circumstances and a warning as to what penalty the umpire could impose would be far more appropriate.

Cops a mouthful in the intense heat of the moment and chooses to retaliate. Obviously player should have kept his cool but same should go for the umpire.

Media will have to say something when Matt Stevic wins the John Nicholls Medal.

The first touched, to me, looks to happen before the ball hits his boot, its incredibly close - if that was "the only touched" i would have no problem going with the umpires call as i don't think you could guarantee it happened "after" the kick VS before. The 2nd touched is more obvious, but its a super weird touched call. Its not touched by the hand trying to smother, it happens from incidental contact almost at his shoulder. No umpire is looking for a touched call at that section of the body, the ump is more than likely watching for hand contact. To put it into perspective - you have, arguably, 2 touched calls happening in less than 1 second. In real time, its hard to see either tbh. People can go on about the ball deflection - but seriously, how many times have we seen the ball defy logic with is spin on an eddie betts or Dusty goal? I would take the wrong call happening like this VS replaying every decision, every day of the week. I have seen what this does in the NBA - it ruins the game dramatically.

The dissent call i am 100% in agreeance on. I've put forward my solution on how that should work. There should be NO in game ramification for dissent, it should be something dealt with after the game and result in suspensions. Too many egos & emotions are amplified in a game to make the right, balanced decision on the spot. The only loser in those moments are the fans, who WATCH a game, not hear the verbals. It should all go to the tribunal & the penalty should be amplified. We can't ask players to be passionate and perfect. Its ridiculous. Players found guilty of dissent should be heavily fined & extreme or repeat cases should lead to suspension.

People need to be careful. The more chances you give the AFL to stop the game, and make the decision in a closed room - the more chances you give them to be corrupt. With no video replay, the corruption of ARCGATE never happens. Making enough drama over this call will only lead to them doing replays on "in-play" situations which will just give them more control over the result.

IE. Imagine a game where Richmond V Geelong in a Final. The Cats are tiring and the Tigers are running all over them. There is a decision like this one but with 15 minutes left in the last qtr, not 1. Instead of just going with the umpires call and allowing the momentum of the match to continue, the AFL go to the replay and spend 5 minutes trying to "decipher" the call. In that time, Geelong players get a chance to rest. In that time, Geelong coach is able to get messages out to get his side more composed, flood back. The game re-starts and the momentum is gone.

The more margins you give the AFL control of, the MORE corruption there will be in them influencing results. We have seen this. They used COVID to decimate our coaching & off-field team. We have seen them use "examples" to change rules that just gave them more control over narratives. You gotta pick your battles, this is not one worth fighting. The dissent rule tho - its a really easy fix. Get rid of the "in-game" penalty & make it something that is more heavily punished NOT during the game.

After reading your novel there , then there were three touches one just at the marking contest go back and look at it , the ball hit the freo players fist before it was marked soo the impartial umpires missed three touches and a free on suspicion that’s 4 “mistakes”in one passage of play , it’s more than mistakes it is match fixing doesn’t matter how you cut it they influenced and contrived the result

Should have got in the blues for the flag when they were $1.01

I love a conspiracy as much as anyone, but i don't see it. Sorry, i dont. I think they were just shit umps and there have been shit umps in the AFL for as long as i've watched it. The umps also gave 7 goals to freo directly from Free's -its an odd thing to do if they are trying to influence the results as they easily could have been ignored as well.

What all this will do tho is lead to replays being brought into the game more & thats when the AFL really gets to be corrupt. ARCgate IS the smoking gun. It wasn't the field umpires that day - it was up in the box & those lil microphones in their ear directing them. There is no way they could have orchestrated this situation with CarlvFreo. They will use it to affect more results and momentum etc. Mark it down.

At no point have i said i think the "right" call was made - just that it was a wrong call by typically shit umpiring. It's a huge stretch to call it corruption, no proof. In real time, i didn't think it was touched. In slow mo i then thought it was touched off his tricep. After reading numerous post i then thought it might/might not be touched off the boot. Now i can kinda see that some excess skin on the freo guys knuckle might have grazed the ball .01second before it was marked. You know what is a conclusive touched? - actually making more than a fingernail on it. Not a single Freo player can claim that they got a "meaningful" touch on that ball except for Jackson & his tricep. The other 3, i am not at all sold on. They would have been called play on back in the 80s, 90s etc FFS. back then we just accpeted "team marks" . The amount of marks i saw 2 players from the same team touch the ball and it be called is ridiculous.

People saying the AFL are riding Carlton to a flag need to look at the ladder. Who is on top? Do you honestly think the AFL would prefer Salray cap cheating Carlton to win the flag over the Giants ? It's the Giants who they would most be happy to win it

It's pretty obvious the AFL don't have just 1 team they want to win the flag, they have a handful of teams.

Carlton is the obvious one, dormant for years they want their large supporter base back inject much needed $$$ into their coffers. They umpired Collingwood to one last year for similar reasons.
Anyone of GWS, Sydney, Gold Coast or Brisbane is also acceptable, they will forever want to keep growing the game in the northern states, they would be really hating Brisbane's struggles atm.
Won't be too long before Essendon start getting a leg up as well, probably once Carlton have broken their drought.
AFL is all about $$$ they don't need Richmond as we are already invested, we won 2 too many flags for their liking.

From that same theory then we need to put an "*" next to the dogs 2016, Us in 2017. Dee's in 2021. Cats in 2022, Pies in 2023.
The touched call wasn't even the defining moment on the weekend. It was the Dissent call. The goal they got for literally free without the ball going to the centre. Yet, that is barely getting a mention Vs the touched and they AFL are high fiving about it in the background. Where are the outrage and calls for change on that? The change is easy, i've stated it a few times already.

Focusing on the touched has been their get out of jail free card on that decision. If anything was corrupt, that was the moment.

I've personally always thought that decision for a ball to be "touched" needed to be definitive & that touched calls that do not influence the movement, direction, spin of the balls should be ruled inconclusive. Only Jacksons tricep hit that note, and its a super weird touched & his body covered the impact & the ball still travelled 30m2 and landed exactly where it should. The best way to avoid this situation is to make MEANINGFUL CONTACT. None of them did that, bar perhaps Jackson. Longmuir even was man enough to not blame it for the loss, stating his side allowed the opportunity to lose.

Anyway - last im saying on it. I really couldn't give a shit about Freo. I was saying way before it was cool that the AFL are manipulating the game, the same way the NBA has done it for 40 years. I watch both sports heavily, i've seen it creep in & the power of "narratives" overtake the integrity of the sport. Its why the NBA is registered these days as an "Entertainment Business" not a "Sports One" Shaq has even told people he was asked where he wanted to be drafted. He said "somewhere hot" & ended up in Orlando.

No "*" next to us, we were already making finals from 2013 to 2015. The AFL didn't need us to win a flag as our fans had already jumped back on. No co-incidence that our free Kick differential started to dry up after 2015.

BTW never read past your 1st paragraph.

Lots of people think we got a very good run over the series in 2017. In fact, 2017 + 19 finals are the only times we had a positive differential, often having a 100-500% swing.

FK differential
2017 Season / - 2.7 per game - FINALS +2
2018 Season / -6pg / FINALS - -0.5
2019 Season / -1.3pg / FINALS - +2PG
2020 Season / -4pg / FINALS -3PG

Cotchin got off a report that almost definitely should have cost him 1-2 weeks in the Prelim as well. To act like the AFL has been corrupting results for the last decade and it influence every result, except our own results is just homer shit. You either believe in the theory, or you don't. We apparently have failed since 2021 cos of umps.... you can't have it both ways. Our luck changed with the AFL after 2020. Wonder why that was.......

To believe that the AFL plays the margins to get favourable narratives to happen must include us. Richmond winning in 2017 was the AFLS wettest dream. It was huge. By far the biggest AFL story of the 2000's

Your comment that we were already "back" before 2017 is laughable as well. A pretty sizeable increase after 2017.

201035,960
201140,184
201253,027
201360,321

201570,809
201672,278
201775,777

The Dogs winning in 2016 under a pretty suss GF umpiring match ended 62 year drought. A year later we ended a 37 year drought. A few years later Demons ended a 57 year drought. St Kilda currently has the longest drought at 57, and then Carlton at 29 years, Crows not far behind and the Dockers are still eating donuts.

I only read your post if you reply to mine, which you do fairly often despite not reading them properly. Maybe just ignore them entirely mate, you dont have to read or reply at all.

NOTE: The reason our differential in 2017 & 18 was poor was because we GAVE AWAY more free kicks as a strategy. We would rather give a free away in certain situations, then hold onto the player to slow the game down to allow defenders to set up the zone, which was the cornerstone of our success. It was why the AFL made the 50m rules around "holding on" so harsh as there was a belief we were abusing the rules to our advantage, a bit like how the Hawks abused the rush behind rule in the GF against the cats in 2008 that also led to sudden rule changes. It's also why our 50m penalties went through the roof after 2017.

100% on the money. Gone are the days where the AFL are “cutting off one's nose to spite one's face” eg penalising Carlton for tanking which set the club back a decade. They’ve realised that ultimately decisions like that affects the brand and the potential millions $$$$$$$$ in revenue.
