Some goods point made here
"This is a story about the incompetent management and board operations at Essendon "
Watch the epic mental gymnastics they’ll do all off season to keep downplaying them further and furtherHad a bit of a chuckle around the grounds after we just traded in Hopper.
Quick run down:
Carlton: Hopper is a 25 yo in a 29 yo's body. Getting GWS players is dodgy trading as they are never as good once they leave GWS
Geelong: Richmond have sold our future for midfielders when we should have been looking at our backline
Hawks: Getting Hopper & Taranto is the same as when they got Mitchell & JOM
How the hell are the media not going off about this Jack Bowes deal? The pick 7 is completely irrelevant to the issue with the trade. Geelong have been able to get this guy and got him to play FOR FREE for two seasons by extending his contract. The AFLPA should be throwing a fit about this because it sets such a dangerous precedent, but what are the chances Dangerfield will speak out against his club?
FFS. Is there any evidence that this is what happened? I thought it was pretty clear than he's picked up a $2.4-$2.7m deal over 4 years, to replace his $1.6m deal over 2 years. As has been stated over and again, it makes no sense for the player (or his agent) to agree to a deal for more years on the same total money. How the hell are the media not going off about this Jack Bowes deal? What an idiot Bowes Is spreads a 2 year contract out over 4 , wow.Bowes not 'betrayed'
More from player agent Robbie D'Orazio on AFL Trade Radio this morning, this time on new Cat Jack Bowes.
The Suns defender was part of the most intriguing trade this year, where he and the Suns' pick No.7 moved to Geelong in exchange for just a future third-round pick.
The catch? The Cats agreed to pick up all of Bowes' $700,000 per year salary that he was contracted to receive over 2023-24.
That money will be smoothed out over four years, D'Orazio confirmed, and reassurance from Chris Scott, Patrick Dangerfield and Tom Stewart was key to Bowes making the decision to join Geelong.
AFL Trade Talk.
No mention of any additional money being paid being.
I still read that as the 700k being smoothed out along with other money over the four yearsBowes not 'betrayed'

It would be interesting what Cornes' take would be if it was StKilda or even North themselves offering JHF the same deal. He is a hypocrite of course but he also understands the concept of clickbait and having a brand. Much of what he says is designed to gain maximum eyeballs, and you know what, it works.Karen Cornes slams giving TT a 7-year deal … he’s 24yo and will be 31yo in the final year of his contract. He’s won a B&F in a GF team. He’s an absolute model citizen off field with great leadership qualities. He’s an established star player who Richmond desperately needs on approx $5m over 7-years.
JHF has played 17 mostly average games. Has shown glimpses of elite ability but too early to tell where his ability will get him as a player. Has proven to be petulant and selfish. Has questionable character. Port offer this 17-gamer a 6-year deal on around $4.2m (1 x $200k and 5 x $800k). Karen says “all good, he’s only young and will still be playing when 24yo”.
What a crock. Name me an elite midfielder who is retired by 31yo which is what TT will be? None.
The hypocrisy of supporting a huge deal for an unproven 19yo and not for a proven 24yo is mind boggling.
The issue with JHF is not the length of the deal, it’s the money. He’s not the first highly talented player to burst out of the blocks. Try these players on for size:
- Sydney Stack (after 10 games was second favourite for the rising star… barely seen since). Imagine we gave him a $4m contract.
- Nick Cox. Looked like being anything before form and injuries stymied his development. Will
still be a very good player, but $4m as a 19yo?
- Matt Rowell. 3 x BOG’s in first 3 games. Injuries slowed him and now appears a plodder … may get back to his best, but may also end up a B grade mid.
- Harley Bennell
- Stephenson : won the rising star with 40 goals and looked like could be anything … Pies gave him a $500k/season deal … imagine it was $800k…
- Thilthorpe : a pick-2 with 5 goals on debut and 16 goals in his first 8 games. 10 goals in his next 17 games.
Anyway…. JHF will ‘probably’ be a gun. But making that assessment based on his 17 games thus far and committing $4.2m is not something Karen should be supportive of given his massive criticism of long-term deals in the past.
Hyp…o…..crite

So instead of two years at 700,000 and then two years at 300,000 it’s four years at 500,000
Spot on, when the Clarkson & Fagan story broke was any sport journos doing the story? It's called I believe "keeping quiet so you don't lose your AFL media accreditation"...
No idea, I’m really not sure what the reasons are that the AFLPA have used to manage to keep the actual contract terms secret for so longFair enough.
But why not just say so?

Initially they were all reported on by news journos. Most sport’s journos are spineless and to s..t scared to upset any of the people they work with.

Why would Dangerfield "call it out" when he was the one who contacted Bowes to entice him to Geelong. The real question is how did Dangerfield/Geelong know of his contract details and the pick 7 opportunity mid way through the year? Who had this AFL confidential intelligence and recently went back to Geelong???
