How does the AFL look over clubs books? There's penalties for exceeding the soft caps. That would have been the alternative.

Not much? It's about 1/20th of their annual wage BEFORE tax, and about 1/12th AFTER tax.

It's the equivalent of an average schned on $100k getting a $5,000 fine, which would be a massive chunk out of their lifestyle. Might be the difference if they get a holiday in for their family or not.

It was a ridiculous judgement and an equally ridiculous sum.
