Put this bronze award next to the "5 wins in a row" certificates at the club

The best pick we had this year was 29. We'll walk away with Aliir, Fantasia and Jones (who is rated as the 10th best player in the draft). I'm happy with that. People losing their shit over a future third rounder seems absurd to me.

Just don't see how people think this is a bad trade. Given our draft hand, all our points will be eaten on Jones and probably Schofield bids - meaning this year it wasn't about the picks but purely having enough points for the two bids.

So assuming (quite safely) we still have enough points, we've traded a future third round pick for Fantasia - given trading picks in this year's draft doesn't have any effect on our draft choices this year.

So do I.

But he's on the cheap for a reason.

We got more for Howard too.
Look we all liked Howard but Howard didn’t suit the way Monty wants his backs to play, he’s a spoiler rather than an intercept marker, Aliir intercepts. And we traded Howard in a super draft remember. Picks have different values in different years.

so essentially a pick that we were using on Lachlan Jones, and a future 3rd round pick for Orazio? i really don't see a major issue with that, he's contracted and we want him.

he's not perfect, but don't underestimate the effect of a new environment, playing/coaching group and home state can have. the ability to give zak and connor more midfield minutes, and the fact his best is damaging.

trying to be as optimistic about this as possible, welcome Orazio. hoping TJ and boaky can be elite role models for you.

Meh, I didn’t see a hell of a lot in DH other than his height TBH...

Trading is not about the things you have being worth something to you, it's about them being worth something to the other party. The fact that pick 29 was of little value to us shouldn't be the issue. It was still worth something to Essendon.

If you look at it the other way, Fantasia was worth nothing to Essendon. He was an out-of-form, injury prone player with one year left on his contract before FA who had already walked out on the club. They saw, however, that he was worth something to us - he filled a need, was the right age profile for our list, and our reputation was on the line because we had made a commitment to him. They therefore priced him accordingly and started asking for Georgiades, Butters etc. as ambit claims which gave them room to move down. They also used the deadline to their advantage to put pressure on us to get the best deal.

I agree that if we get Jones and Schofield without selling the farm in other draft pick trades it will probably work out OK in the end. But this doesn't change the fact that Essendon extracted a premium from us in the form of next year's third through superior negotiating.

TL;DR - pick 29 should have been enough for Fantasia whether we valued it or not.

Well they do know more than CD b geez. CD just does not know what players the Club wants. Oh dear ... ;)

We did well, Boaky missing set shots more often than not is a bigger problem....

Yeah sure we got bent over by Dodo but at the end of the day he didn't hurt us because he did us with a one incher.

We can't all be longdonkey's

I'm not 100% sure on him, his best looks terrific and he obviously has goal sense. I'm going to give him every chance and he looks like the sort of player that can win over the faithful with a mix of goal sense and general peskiness.

Here comes that word, if he stays fit he gives us another creative goal-scoring option for the opposition to cover. Can't say I've ever seen him take short steps or not commit and he has that bit of annoyance value that can unsettle opposition players and supporters.

I can't for a second imagine him getting booed by Port supporters. For what? He didn't cost anyone their place on the list and in the end we gave up for him in this draft what we were always only going to give up.

I think too often people get way too influenced by some of the concentrated thinking in here and extrapolate it out to the wider supporter base.

Welcome Orazio, give it your best shot and we will back you in all the way.

I reckon bringbackbucky just worded his post poorly and it's been interpreted worse than what he actually meant.
Thanks. I've deleted the post cos it didn't come across as I intended and encouraged some pretty personal attacks...

I still don't think we should've bought him in, although I'm not really fussed about the price paid. In the end I don't think he will get on the park anyway so supporter reaction or taking a kids spot won't be an issue...

Yup, we have a contending team (though I believe our true position this year was probably 5th), and have added 3 players that could potentially play every game next season without a first round pick!

How that is less than an excellent trade period I don't know!

I woildnt mind seeing an interview of him. Dont think i have ever heard him speak before.
He looks like he'd have a squeaky voice!
