We are a better team with a fully fit Oscar Allen in it. If he's not fit though he probably isn't getting a contract that would trigger band 1 compo.

Leave it until mid season bye at the earliest and see how he's tracking.

Pretty open to a range of options here. Certainly wouldn't be rushing into signing him up though I thought he basically has a 5 year offer on the table and him wanting something longer was the hold up.

A huge amount rests on whether he makes it through the preseason unscathed and is cherry ripe for round one, and whether his team mates [very young group now which to me don't seem all that enthralled in his personality] end up voting him captain again over the pre-season.

Happy for him to sign up on 5 years or less, preferably not on stupid money as we have far more important contracts to get over the line over the next 5 years.

Happy for him to sign on at 3-5 years then get traded end of year for Warner or for a multitude of high end picks.

Perhaps less happy for him to go as a free agent because if we have that 6-10 win season that nets us just the one first round pick [maybe as low as 6-8] when he's probably worth 2 first rounders if under contract.

Probably what I'd be most happy with is he signs up for 5 years on modest [think Barrass like] money, we go down to single captaincy model under Duggan or Jake, and Oscar just gets his body right, plays mostly forward this year but switches to defence longer term, where I think he'll stay healthier overall and be of most value to the club.
Thought he seemed a pretty likable happy bloke.

Thought he seemed a pretty likable happy bloke.

I've phrased that wrong I think, he seems a lovely bloke and is no doubt liikeable. Just perhaps not the strongest leader and a bit meh. The amount of comments that have been coming out of the club and from people around the club about how weak the leadership situation has been of late and how necessary it is to be getting that into the club through senior players from other clubs, that's kind of humiliating for the current captains. Mini when asked last week if they'd be sticking with the current set-up played a straight bat that he was "open to it" but it was about as short of a ringing endorsement as your likely to find. Now it looks like Matt Clarke is possibly running with the Tom Barrass playbook on Oscars next contract so I'd be surprised if he goes around again. [now watch the club announce tomorrow they've signed him up for 8 years and made him stand alone captain]

Nah just a vibe. Seen too many of those podcasts he's done with thumper and those poor young lads. I doubt anyone dislikes him or anything but would think there are senior players who the under 21s see differently and have a bit more reverence for. It'll be interesting to see how they vote.
He always sounds like a bit of a doofus, but who knows what the kids like these days?

I'm just waiting for the first captain to use 'skibidi' in a rev-up.

I expect this will continue throughout next year. Brisbane aren't even trying to hide their chase for him anymore either.

O.Allen fits their bill as an FA to replace J.Daniher without losing valuable points for their academy kids.

I can see the club being pressured to match a 5+ year contract from mid-season onwards.

What M.Clarke decides on this will determine his tenure as list manager.

Allen will trigger Band 1 compensation- that’s a certainty. But…

we will also be chasing Starcevich as a FA which complicates matters, especially if it’s Brisbane who are after Allen

So we get Band 1 for Allen but then have to trade for Starcevich. Probably need our R2 pick at best

Or Brisbane get Band 1 (or 2 - little difference either way) then trade for Allen. But what with - they’ve got nothing worth a top 5 pick

Rather we keep Allen and chase Starcevich as a FA that we don’t need to use draft capital on

Give him 5 years with triggers for a 6th

The CODE story is just Colin Young pulling his usual shit - I doubt very much Oscar is remotely considering leaving

I get what you mean. I stopped listening to the podcast because I found him quite fake.

Sadly, given the state of his body and our likely finishing position next year we are probably better off with a band 1 compo (pick 2-5). That's the reality, but he's an important senior player for us, a good clubman and if he can get his body right worth the pick we would get for him.

It has to be a wait and see approach. If we climb the ladder he stays. If he gets his body right he stays. If neither of those happen, we need to give a conservative offer and let him explore options if he wishes.

Put a 4 year offer with triggers on the table with the potential to take it to 6 on really good money particularly in the first 4 years.

If he chooses free agency, he chooses free agency and even still I wouldn't be putting that offer on the table until round 8.

If Colin Young wants to go down the path of ****ing with West Coast (via his proxy McDougall) then he can get ****ed. This is how he operates.

5 years plus triggers imo

I don’t think you push a club leader who can kick 50+ goals out the door

The 1st rnd pick is enticing but you can get them from the McKay and Barrass types. Oscar is a level above that. Wed be happy to get someone of equal talent at a pick 3. Wed just have wasted 6/7 years of development

It's a catch 22 situation.

We hold off a contract, he plays 20 games and wins the Coleman, and we find ourselves matching 7yr offers from Victorian clubs. So we sign him up for 7 more and 3 yrs into it, he's cooked.

We sign him now on a 4 yr deal with a 2 yr trigger based on games played/performance and he knocks it back and waits till those offers come anyway.

I'd take a risk on the later. 4 with strict 2 yr trigger. Front end it. And make the trigger financially enticing . If can stay on the park he will kick 60 a yr and be worth every penny.

Now that all the doomsayers have rehabilitated from self-harming after the draft it's time to move on to the next dark space impacting WCE..........the retention of OA, jeez Louise!

If his knees are dodgy then I'm happy with offering nothing more than 3 years + triggers. If he's not happy then FA it is.
I have no insights into his knees. Mine are knew but thats irrelevant. If they are dodgy - the club would be aware. Thus it's a reasonable offer or FA. Personally In think he is a fine footballer but not a great leader and sometimes appears to be a bit of a sook.

If he does leave & it nets us a first round comp pick which will likely be a top 5 pick I wouldn’t be upset.

Imagine having the capital & landing Warner plus Rodriguez. Would us up nicely

If he has a good year and stays injury free then he'd be worth more under contract in a trade than what we get via free agency compensation. 2 first rounders as opposed to 1. Problem would be almost no-one would be able to get 2 first rounders these days, least not someone trying to add him for a premiership tilt like a Brisbane or Sydney.
