With Joey Daniher retiring, I would love to see Brisbane make a play for Oscar Allen as a replacement. Can play forward and pinch hit in the ruck and is the only like for like replacement I can think of for Joey.

They have no assets to trade. If they want to go next year as a RFA then good luck.

Allen isnt the guy youd throw into the ruck, theyd have to find another, Hipwood might have to be their 2nd ruck

He will sign on. He will be better paid at the Eagles than just about anywhere else, and he has no reason to leave.
Perth boy, captaining the club he grew up supporting. Dream gig
Ok fair enough then.

So expect him to sign a 4 or 5 year extension early next year.

I was thinking Waterman was out of contract next season. If he was both Eagles tall forwards would of been looked at by a few clubs.

Waterman was looked at by other clubs, but he always wanted to stay. Allen will be the same.

Still a little speculation on our board that Allen is the KPF we have on the hook for next year.

Wouldn't happen. Wce would match and you don't have the assets to trade. I doubt he wants to leave anyway.

Some speculation on Starcevich wanting to come home, if Starc wanted to come home as a RFA we would have issues as there would be very little compo if any(idk if the AFL works out the difference on the contracts or just bands).

If Allen REALLY wanted to leave and Starcevich wanted to come home, I could see a world where you guys agree to trade us Starc for super cheap in return for us not matching a bid on Allen.

Again though, highly unlikely

Personally can't see Allen leaving considering there's been reporting for months that both parties are working on an extension. Usually that doesn't happen if a player is considering leaving the club. I think we're more likely to be going after a contracted forward than an OOC one next year tbh.

West Coast Eagles zeroing in on Oscar Allen contract extension

Brisbane won't be able to beat the top five pick the AFL will just give WC, and they won't have to. Whatever they have will have to do.

Sydney and Melbourne also in the market for Allen.

$ can be found quite easy when a club needs to the Lions save $800k on Daniher alone from next season

The AFL doesn't have a real salary cap. Allen could join any club next year for $1m a year.

I'm not convinced of the move for Allen, though.

Brisbane at the end of next year have Andrews and McKenna 29, Gardiner 30, O-Mac & Cameron 31, Neale 32, Lester 33, Zorko 36. The group Allen's age and younger is strong but after (presumably) 7 years near the top there might be a transition period coinciding with Allen's prime late 20s years. Or I could be totally wrong and Brisbane are just getting started. Either way would be disappointed if Allen leaves but if he's an RFA and we are bottom 4 again it's the best time to do it.

They would still match. Allen is worth more to them than that and he doesn't want to leave WA anyway.

We've been lucky enough to get the Ashcroft brothers in, and our depth is pretty good, so I'm confident we'll be contending for several years to come. The only player you've mentioned that we don't yet have a replacement for is Andrews, but there's time to address that at least.

The lions have an entirely new midfield taken with first round picks coming through with Ashcroft x2, Fletcher and Marshall.
They arent falling off, its a lot easier to find those other roles via trade and FA if they want, or they can look for them later in the draft.
Its very easy when you have the elite midfield talent sorted before you drop off.
