The lions have an entirely new midfield taken with first round picks coming through with Ashcroft x2, Fletcher and Marshall.
They arent falling off, its a lot easier to find those other roles via trade and FA if they want, or they can look for them later in the draft.
Its very easy when you have the elite midfield talent sorted before you drop off.
They have no KPF’s though. Hipwood isn’t the main man so I would be shocked if he steps up trying to be one.

A lot of grunt coming from the old guns, we have seen that drop off two years in a row after winning the flag. I expect them to regress while they find replacements for the oldies & forwards.

Hipwood kicked 47 goals in 2023 would say that's a pretty handy key forward he had OP in the second half of last season and still kicked 35 goals for the year
The Midfield is always the hardest to rebuild our next 3 drafts should take care of that KPP'ers can be attained though Free Agency

You really should worry about you're own list than the Lions

Zorko, Neale, Lester, Daniher, Cameron and Fort (McInerney) were the ones that were 30 or over in the Grand Final side. McKenna aside, everyone else was 27 or younger.

Zorko's probably only got a year or so left, but Coleman is a pretty handy replacement. Daniher is irreplaceable for next year (at a minimum), so we'll have to change the way our forwards structure up. Lohmann looks primed to take a bigger role next year. Hopefully Doedee can come back and put pressure on Lester for his spot.

It’s more the drive and luck going your way again. I’ll be surprised if you make finals going off the past two premiers & their age demographic. I think you’ll bounce back quick enough though and your young kids will help that.

what luck ? If you look the Lions lost the 3rd most games in average last season behind Collingwood and Richmond

Well yes, that's why we'd be interested in Allen. If we were stacked for KPFs, we wouldn't bother. I doubt the Western Bulldogs would have serious interest in him, for example.

Sure, it's possible. Even this season our boys had runs of very poor form. But there's plenty of talent coming back from injury too. In any case I doubt this would dissuade Allen if he has serious interest in joining us (although that's still pure conjecture and rumours at this point). Talent is talent, regardless of a bad season here and there.

athletic kpf who can chop out in the ruck with chronic injury issues?

wonder where ive seen this story before.
Allen has been used in the ruck but i wouldn’t recommend it. He’s 5cm shorter than Joe and I recon it’s where some of his injury concerns have occurred.

Annable coming next year too who is potentially a top 5 pick.

i think people overstate injury occurrence from rucking. brisbane fans were terrified of daniher breaking from it but his only injury during his time at the club was playing down forward. id say crashing packs and having to stand under the ball knowing a defender is going to smash in to you would be more likely to injure a player.

doing that 15-20% ruck time is a pretty low risk part of the role IMO

He will sign on. He will be better paid at the Eagles than just about anywhere else, and he has no reason to leave.
Perth boy, captaining the club he grew up supporting. Dream gig

If Brisbane pay him well then you’ll be well compensated for him leaving as a free agent…if you get pick 2-3 for him then surely it’s a win-win?

if essendon didnt match for daniher wce wouldnt match for allen.

matching and forcing a player to stay is unprecedented. matching because you can get a better deal out of the club acquiring the free agent than the compensation formula would otherwise provide is why a club would match.

wce would likely get pick 2-4 for allen which is way more than what brisbane could trade if matched.

I have to agree with you. Allen is worth more as a compo. You only have to look at how Barrass didn't get the result The Eagles wanted due to the Hawks getting on a roll and ending up higher up the ladder than what looked likely and the Hawks playing hard ball.
