if essendon didnt match for daniher wce wouldnt match for allen.

matching and forcing a player to stay is unprecedented. matching because you can get a better deal out of the club acquiring the free agent than the compensation formula would otherwise provide is why a club would match.

wce would likely get pick 2-4 for allen which is way more than what brisbane could trade if matched.
You can trade 3 first rounders. Not sure you'll get off that easy in the unlikely event.

Most likely outcome is Eagles don't match & receive a top 3 compo pick. Two top 3 picks would be hard to turn down for a rebuilding team. Either the Lions get him via FA or we don't get him.
1 top 3 pick you mean. They get the other one regardless of what happens with Allen. And it wouldn't take much for 3 firsts to be equal or greater value than the compo pick.

Yes. Do you understand that wce would match?

Why would you respond to that post when I said this literally one post earlier:

If Brisbane pay him well then you’ll be well compensated for him leaving as a free agent…if you get pick 2-3 for him then surely it’s a win-win?

Why would you match if he wanted to leave?

Be interesting to see which team is the loser if he leaves. If his knee is as bad as rumoured WC may push him out the door all the while mouthing “please stay Oscar” to the fans
we will know how good his knee is based on how many games he plays this year

won't be some secret

Hasn't got any worse than it was at the start of the year and he's already been back in full training.

I imagine it's something he'll just have to manage for the rest of his career but won't really affect him while playing.

Personally, I'd be fine with him leaving if we end up with a other top 5 pick.

His position is one we have a glut of players for already.

If him leaving means we get 2 top 5 mids next year, then that's a reasonable result.

Brisbane having a good look
How is that known? I agree, he would be a good fit for them. They have young guns galore in the midfield coming through, need some KPP from somewhere.
I think whilst Daniher could have some silly moments, he was a very good player overall, Brisbane will miss him.

Mentioned it is a similar issue to what Josh Kennedy played with in the later part of his career.

Yep Josh Kennedy. Who retired at 33 years old after kicking 700 goals and playing 293 games.

And a famous 8 goals in his final match.

Yep, you aren’t winning anything in the time Allen will be in the AFL. Best to get a top pick for him.

Well, anything can happen. 4 more years is enough to be pushing for finals again, I'd have thought. People are too caught up in how badly North botched their attempt at rebuilding. With the on and off field changes made this year, I'm fairly confident we can be playing finals well before Oz retires.

He'll only be 30 then, with another few years left in him.

Still, it's a position we have more than enough young talent in, so as much as I love the guy, the club would likely be better off in the long term if he took up a FA offer.

Yep you sum it up well.
May be contending for finals by the time Allen is 30, but do you really want that? Get maximum impact for him now. You guys are miles off it. By far the furthest if Harley goes as expected in the next couple as well. Build properly with high draft picks.

Expectation is Harley stays, it would be a coup if a club was able to pry him away.
If Harley was to leave we would fetch a huge price for him, should be the highest price for a player since Judd. We will be fine.

That would all depend where he wanted to go and if in contract still

e.g
If say he was uncontracted and selected Collingwood next year
what do you get ?

A pointless exercise as hes more than likely to sign in 2025 and hes not OOC next year, but regardless, players in general dont ask for trades to clubs who arent even remotely close to having the draft capital.

Thats a matter of opinion

Smith asked for a trade to Geelong which not many thought they had that draft capital and the same went for Dunkley to brisbane a few years ago.

Might be a pointless exercise but there are alot of pointless things discussed on forums to gauge opinions and this was the same as i had pointed out

But again say he was out of contract and wanted the Pies what do you get for him ?
