Round 14, 2007.

Neale Daniher's final game as coach of the Melbourne Football Club.

Melbourne up by less than a kick, about 5 seconds left the ball gets to Lucas who runs in to the open goal with McLean and Bell attempting to bring him down but failing and he kicks the goal and the Bombers steal it.

I hate you Scott Lucas.
I was stupid enough to put $500 on the game and was absolutely shattered when Lucas kicked that! From memory they were about 2 goals down with >2min to go and there was a quick one before that aswell

Rod Jameson, kick after the siren to beat Fitzroy Round 12 1991 @ Footy Park to win by 3 points.

Even the Adelaide crowd were chanting 'Cheat, Cheat!' at the umpires after that one. The last two Crows goals came from dodgy frees in the last minute.

I went to Princes Park (as my BIL's guest) in the 80s to see Carlton-Saints. Carlton were the top side, Saints were crap. Saints led all day, until the 35-minute mark of the last quarter when Carlton finally kicked the goal to put them in front. Siren went 10 secs later.

Daylight robbery.

We got four holding-the-ball decisions our way in the last 90 seconds of the game.

And the umps have been making up for it ever since! :p

Another one was Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs round 21, 2005.

The Bulldogs were 4 goals up, with about 4 minutes to go.

Melbourne went bang, bang, bang bang, with Jeff White kicking a big 50 meter goal to put them in front right before the siren

That one was total theft by the Dees and propelled then into 8th at the expense of the Doggies who finished 9th.

I was there, sitting near the Bulldogs cheersquad. What a game it was:thumbsu:

Other one which wasn't mentioned

Jason McCartney against Essendon in 2002 kicked a goal very late to win, that game Mick Martin kicked a goal:D

Jason McCartney's comeback game, where he got a little kick to it and Harding kicked a goal with like 10 secs on the clock.

Down by 20pts with 4 minutes on the clock against the Pies in 05 and Thompson kicked the winner with 13 secs on the clock.

Shannon Grant in 2005 against St Kilda, down by 17 at the 22 min mark and Grant went bang, bang, bang, bang to win the game.

2008 against the Pies, down by like 20 pts at the G cameback from nowwhere, and won and Alan Didak missing

2008 against the Dogs, Brad Johnson missing to lose it for the dogs in Boomers '250th game.

^If I recall correctly, the Davey brothers were chasing and contesting for a hot ball right in the centre square in the play leading up to that moment.

Pretty exciting stuff seeing two bros go at it against each other.

I'm still anxious to hear the triple M commentary from yesterday's Anzac day game. The person that said they were going to upload it. Do it! :)

The obvious one that hasn't been mentioned either is the famous 1987 Preliminary Final.

Watch the youtube video of it. When Melbourne's Eishold is lining up for a goal from point blank range (he kicks a point) there is about 10 seconds left. From the kick in, the ball literally gets to the Hawks forward 50 in a few seconds and the siren goes, almost "as" the free kick is awarded to Buckenara.

With the aide of the 15 metre penalty he kicks from about 45, and puts the Hawks in front for the first time all day.

Everyone, even neutals, were heartbroken. No one wanted Hawthorn to win that day. Probably the most devastaing loss a club has ever had. They hadn't even made the finals (let alone win one) for 23 years. Then they sneak into 5th after round 22 in amazing circumstances, win two finals by 118 and 80 points and lead all day against the Hawks. Terrible loss that one. Everyone felt for the poor Dees that day. All Eishold had to do was take 3 seconds longer lining up for goal. That's how tight the "time remaining" was when Hawthorn kicked in from the behind.

I cant find the youtube vid of it, but thats not my recollection of events. I dont believe Eisholds behind was Melbournes last score. From memory, Campbell had a running shot from 40 out in front after Eisholds shanked banana kick which just missed. It was from this behind where the Hawks moved it on quickly for the end result.

For me, nothing beats Scott Hodges kick in the SANFL 1996 Prelim. An incredible kick for goal from 40 out with an absolute gale blowing across the face of goal. Still dont know how he slotted it.

fwiw, the siren goes 4 seconds after the centre bounce.

Also, as a Port supporter, I cant look past the two last second victories in 07. Watched both games at the same mates house...absolutely could not believe it that the same thing happened two weeks in a row. Were jumping around like madmen.

I can't remember just how "last minute" it was, but Dogs/North a few years back at Manuka Oval. Dogs were down by about five goals at three quarter time, and came back to be within a goal. Last score I think was Cooney scrambling around in the goal square to soccer it off the ground for the winner goal. Went nuts whilst watching it - but forgive me if my memory is a bit shaky.

EDIT: 2004. Won by a point. Wasn't Cooney who goaled (maybe Darce?). All I remember were some awesome 40m hit outs from Darcy to set us up.

Skip all the crud at the start. Drama plus, right up until the umpire signaled! The hush just before the 2 fingered salute was amazing.

Peter Burgoyne v Carlton late 2000. From what I remember we were about 15th at the time and Carlton were 4th or somewhere there abouts, massive upset. Port kick 2 goals in the last minute to snatch victory.

Don't know if the sound works for others but it doesn't for me. Shame.

I remember north vs sydney a few years back, i think it was a milestone game for glenn archer?

Anyway, the kangas were about 40 points down mid way through the last at the SCG, and came from absolutely nowhere to snatch the win, I think Corey Jones kicked it from the boundary with about 20 seconds left after a deliberate out of bounds by a sydney player. Amazing

Skip to about 1:35 for the goods, though the rest is highly amusing. That Blight goal was the 3rd of 3 amazing goals, what a gun. Hark at Lou Richards calling the distance of his first goal though, 70 metres! He was 50-55 at most Lou. That 85 to 90 was more like 60-70 too, though still monstrously huge.

1987 Round 22 v Geelong. Cats had led all day. Dunstall kicks 2 goals in last couple of minutes to win it.

At exactly the same time Kernahan is lining up an after the siren goal.

Also the Dees are at the Western Oval. 3 points the difference. Winner makes the finals if Hawks win.

The best round of football of all time.

3 weeks later the famous Preliminary final. need 2 goals in the last minute. Buckenara kicks one leaving 30s on the clock. Dees go straight out of the centre and kick a point. Leaves about 8s, Tuck goes straight up the centre to Schwab, handpass to Langford, kicks long, trip, whistle, siren... 15m penalty as Stynes runs through the mark. "the siren's still going isn't? Don't think the umpire can hear it. There's no way he can hear it. Buckenara's got to kick this to put Hawthorn in the Grand Final. He's done it. Hawthorn have made it. Unbelievable."
