And Jesus wept.

Is there no such thing as a joke anymore?
Mate, these guys are either professionals or they’re not
This isn’t a party, this is their workplace
Private functions are still work functions
If I dressed up in the costumes that the GWS or the umpire did at a function, I’m sacked

This isnt the end of humour.

Well, it's certainly the end of humour in the workplace!
And, for my mind, it's an absolute disgrace.

If I was in a workplace where the function censored the choice of humorous presentations in the way that the AFL does, I would be leaving as soon as I could, and certainly not attending any such function. I would be doing all I could to organize a boycott by others of the whole thing, and denigrating my employer in any way I could.

Exactly. I’m at a work or any function to relax. Not feel awkward because I accidentally laughed at something Karen from accounts found “utterly distasteful”

He's one for you:

A friend of mine was laughing about how ridiculous her work is. She went to work in a red dress. A guy who she's mates with sang the "The Lady in Red" when she walked into a room. That afternoon she was called in and a manager awkwardly apologised to her for what had occured. And the next day, the singer received an official warning for his behaviour.

How does one accidentally laugh at something?

By holding it on around said Karen until it slips out. I don’t even want to engage about this anymore. Dark humour seems as evil as murder on Bigfooty
I am a little sensitive about some things. As a female as I sometimes have a different sense of humour to males.

Although I can understand workplaces having rules.

All good though wasn't pointing the finger at you, just generally speaking, I will move on.

Next mad Monday, Houston should dress up as a Carlton player and someone else dress up as Jon Ralph to interview Houston on his upcoming move to the Blues.

The world has truly gone mad.

Do the fun police not realise that this does nothing to promote decorum?

Nah, denigrating your employer for any reason (that’s not whistleblowing) is going too far. And a really bad idea. What good could possibly come out of it?

If the AFL want to play killjoys at a company function, then I guess that’s their prerogative - but I don’t get why this needed to be anything more than a quiet word behind closed doors on Monday morning. WTF do you need to plaster the antics of an umpire at an end-of-year function across the media?
