West Coast WAFL captain Jackson Nelson is set to move home to Victoria next year, bringing an end to almost a decade at the club. The West Australian understands Ruscoe, a former Collingwood defender, will also leave the Eagles after just one season, where he moved after being axed by the Pies at the end of their premiership season last year.

Gillbee, who is close friends and housemates with teenage star Reid, will also leave his part-time community role at the club and is understood to be departing the reserves side. The 20-year-old did not manage a game in his one year as a rookie with GWS, with his signing considered by many an attempt at helping Reid settle into WA.

The West reported last month axed Eagles Jamaine Jones and Zane Trew have signed with South Fremantle and Swan Districts respectively, while Next Generation Academy product Jordyn Baker has joined East Perth.

I thought he lost his passion for football..

I also initially misread that as him being the playing coach for the juniors 🤣
I think lost passion playing afl
Maybe getting back involved in his old club will make him enjoy footy again

I actually don’t mind the new Gold Coast logo at all.

I think we'll get a better idea on friday when they debut the new logo and new jumper but I don't think its too bad. It grows on you the more you look at it. You get what they were achieving, looking like a sun by adding G and S intertwining.

I think once we see the new jumper, whch seems might be a gradient of red and darker, the logo will stand out and could look alright.
Look at this red they have here promoting the event on friday. Possibly adding a bit of the wave pattern?

I guess it depends if by “playing football” he’s talking about the 2.5 hours a week x 23 H&A rounds footy players spend actually playing footy, or if he’s talking about thousands of hours a year that footy players need to spend doing other things. Lifting weights. Listening to Clarko. Training. Listening to Clarko. Recovery baths. Listening to Clarko. Media. Listening to Clarko.

Stepho never lifted weights.

I think he'll discover that whilst AFL might involve sacrifice, it's also a pretty cool extremely well paid part time job that beats the hell out of working and then trying to fit in his footy after work.

I'm hoping he works it out soon enough to make a comeback and give us a glimpse of what might have been.

AFL footy isn’t for everyone. Tom Boyd doesn’t seem to have any regrets?

On a recent podcast Ed said (my words …) that a large number of AFL footballers happily enjoy the trappings of AFL footy, but they’re not so enthusiastic about doing the hard stuff.

And there will always be super talented footballers who aren’t mentally wired for their era.

For example, if we could use a Time Machine to swap the knockabout Jayden Stephenson with the frustrated perfectionist Phil Carman, Collingwood might very well have another five silver urns they need to keep polished.
