AFL footy isn’t for everyone. Tom Boyd doesn’t seem to have any regrets?

On a recent podcast Ed said (my words …) that a large number of AFL footballers happily enjoy the trappings of AFL footy, but they’re not so enthusiastic about doing the hard stuff.

And there will always be super talented footballers who aren’t mentally wired for their era.

For example, if we could use a Time Machine to swap the knockabout Jayden Stephenson with the frustrated perfectionist Phil Carman, Collingwood might very well have another five silver urns they need to keep polished.
If Phil played in this era he wouldn’t have to put up with the unfair treatment he received back then. He would rip the competition asunder

What's he doing?

'A photo of Dustin Martin speaking with key Fox Footy powerbrokers alongside former teammate Jack Riewoldt and manager Ralph Carr surfaced in the Herald Sun on Tuesday, leading to questions on whether the notoriously media shy Martin was considering a stint in the commentary box.'

...he could have been discussing a documentary.. I can't really see how he'd offer anything as a commentator.

"I luv's youse all'

I'm thinking he sits up in the box with the Dusty aura and someone is hired to speak - pretending to be him.

Probably should happen with a few of the stars they give commentary gigs to.

Seems a weird appointment for a bloke that doesn’t talk at all. One bloke that has surprised me in the media is Daisy Thomas. Provides a lot of good analysis and humour

After years of listening to BT’s excruciatingly terrible commentary …

… I reckon I’d actually quite enjoy having Dusty in the commentary chair. With Humphrey B. Bear providing special comments.

Sounds like a flimsy story. He was in a photo. My money is on a one off interview with Jack. Jack trying to set himself up to do Mike Sheehan stuff.

It's more likely they were discussing a Dusty documentary with Jack involved somehow. He's the only one Dusty would speak to in an on-air interview after his retirement.

I've been thinking about the new Gold Coast jumper and why it just doesn't quite work (for me).

I think I've got it sussed out and it goes back further than the design of the logo. It's the very placement of a large logo in the middle of a jumper, rather than the nature of the logo itself.

Maybe it's why Carlton is such a cursed club, but putting a fat logo on the front of the shirt rarely works. It looks manufactured and doesn't look like it represents a club. Carlton and Fitzroy I'd give a reluctant pass through as the "logos" are the traditional arrangement of letters and are steeped in history (RIP Fitzroy).

I think that if the Suns had a guernsey that featured the new colours in some kind of simple, recognisable pattern (stripes, a V, panels, whatever works) and made the logo one you saw on the badge, advertising and merchandise, that it would work far better.

Just my two cents.

I couldn’t agree more. I don’t understand why they’ve never put a sunburst on their jumper. It’s a simple shape (like the V’s or panels that you mentioned), it’d be unique in the AFL, and it would be iconic.

For example I think the Arizona state flag does it well, but imagine it with a sun instead of a star …
