It's also not fair having to tell the public about your sexual life.
It's none of anyone's business.
I absolutely agree that no one should be forced to tell people anything about their lives that they don't want to.
But being open about who you love (or bonk) isn't really about telling people how you like to touch junk with others. it's about not having to actively conceal your relationships and your identity.
Pendles doesn't go into detail about his sex life with his missus, but nor does he have to pretend that his beautiful wife Alex doesn't exist. They post on social media all the time. They attend the Brownlow hand in hand. A gay player can't do any of that without saying yep, I'm gay.
I don't blame anyone for not wanting to be "the first". It took the toughest man I've ever seen play sport in Ian Roberts to be brave enough to come out in the NRL. Similar intestinal fortitude will be needed in our code.
I reckon if one of our boys came out, Fly and the group would be incredibly supportive of him. It's all the external stuff that's the problem. I suspect that most people don't want to be a spokesperson, they just want to get on with their lives.
