Just a small note but WHEN will Melbourne players be penalised for taking oppo players to ground after marks. They ALL do it and its timewasting. Sheedy employed the same tactic in the 80's with his Essendon teams, they even gave away 15m penalties freely just to slow down ball movement. Melbourne try it against us but its been really OBVIOUS tonight.

I have been told the abortion comment didn’t happen. Zorko actually told Petty he was being traded to Essendon. Pretty ordinary if true.

He’s fortunate he lives in a time where such grubbiness doesn’t get its true ramifications. Imagine saying that to Sheedys Bombers or Jeans Hawks to name a couple.

Like that Essendon missed out on Clarkson. A big enough profile coupled with his want for control makes Clarkson one of a few coaches who could run a much needed broom through their tin shed. Lyon is potentially the other, but with no flags he probably isn’t seen in the same messiah light as Clarkson and therefore I sense their fans would be less patient.

Of course the broom doesn’t need to come from the coach, but no one else looks likely to make the wholesale changes needed in culture or personnel.

I hope they anoint another chosen one as coach instead of conducting a thorough screening/interview process.

Korda wasn’t president for long, but allowing Licuria, Murphy, Ball, Anderson and Wright space to identify the type of coach needed and the right fit was a nice change and one that seems to have recalibrated the club to a more humble version of it’s self.
