I agree that the hawks injury list has been insanly non existent, especially for a team with like 5-6 32+ year old players. Take Burgoyne, Mitchell and Roughead out of that team and they suddenly don't look so dominant. I did think Sydney was paeticually unlucky this year, losing 3 of their top 5 players at the start of the finals.

Still I came here after reading the thread on the main board about how "boring" hawthorn is and I was trying to figure out what it is I really don't like about them. I never had the same hatred for Geelong and they were just as dominant, perhaps the lack of back to back flags helped I'm not sure.

I do think as has been mentioned in the other thread, (besides thinking that some of their players just seem super arrogant) their game style of chip kicking it around is what I really dislike. However it isn't that I find that game style ugly or boring, it's that I feel like it totally exploits the rules. I think judging 15m is one of the hardest things to do in the game for umpires and I think hawthorn have built their game plan more or less around this fact. Watching some of the tiny kicms they do to eachothee you just look and go, that's not 15, but the mark gets paid and all the pressure is released. Does anyone else think this?

Problem is Hawthorn will most likely get get a four peat.. I can't see any team beating them on their home ground on grand final day....Much Much harder for interstate teams to win a premiership

Quoted for truth.

Your boys made some terrible mistakes at critical times but apart from that, the "power" Victorian sides are always going to have a huge advantage on GF day due to their familiarity with the MCG.

There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that (a purely hypothetical) GF with (say) the Eagles or Freo playing at Subiaco would be an entirely different ball game.

Why should anyone get a home ground 'advantage'? (i support MCG as GF venue)

Being born and bred Hawthorn, I jokingly lament supporting the Lions. (half my extended family support Hawthorn, a quarter Lions (Fitzroy), and a quarter Essendon.) The support of these teams in my family is kind of set in stone like the three Abrahamic superstitions.
Hawthorn are based in the golden heartland of AFL. They've got 80,000+ members, truckloads of money and wealthy fans. In short, they can continue. I remember them winning their 2nd flag, when we had 8. Whatever has happened in the last 15 years is open to discussion, but the argument is moot when you look at them over the last 40 or 50 years. I hate to say it, but jeez I wish we were them.

They're in much better shape going for 4 in a row than we were. The fact we got to that 4th GF in a row with more or less the same team is testimony to those players.

If Mitchell, Hodge and Burgoyne slow down next season the Hawks are cooked. Their best midfielders are still their oldest ones.
