^ Maybe, but I'd like to think it was more due to lack of availability of other coaches ie club's own fault for leaving it until so late in the year and not asking for Woosha's decision sooner , so he just opted for his mates (who happened to be free). I expect a cleanout of assistants at season's end once more credentialed assistants are available, unless we miraculously make the finals, but if it doesn't happen , I'll have to reconsider my opinion of Simmo (as picking inexperienced mates for comfort rather than necessity suggests confidence issues)

Agree completely with the above, and expect, not hope their will be significant changes to the coaching panel.

For me coaches we should be looking at in the off-season:

  • Mark Stone - Freo Stoppages coach since 2012, Sydney Swans Stoppages coach from 2003-2007, West Coast Stoppages and Opposition analyst 2003 - 2007, Assistant coach at South Freo 2001-2002 and Senior Coach Wagga Tigers 1999-2000.
  • Voss/Harvey - My preference is Voss, but I wouldn't be disappointed in getting Harvey
  • Mark Riley - GC Suns forwards coach, 2008-2012 Carlton Assistant, 2003 - 2007 Assistant coach at Melbourne (last 9 games he coached when Neal Daniher was sacked), 2001 - 2003 Claremont (Prelim in 2001 and semi in 2003), 1995 - 1998 Development to Assistant coach with Freo.
I also think we should be looking at a High Performance Manager, like Darren Burgess who has worked internationally and can bring what they have learnt/different to our club e.g. Someone like Dave Hancock who admittedly isn't from an AFL background, but his CV reads:
Director of Training and Conditioning - NY Knicks
Head Physiotherapist - Chelsea Football Club
Head Physiotherapist - Leeds United
Head of Athletic Development and Medicine - Blackburn Rovers
Head Physiotherapist - Wolverhampton Wanderers
Assistant Physiotherapist - Leeds Rugby
MD - Atherapy - A business he still runs which includes 22 Physio/rehabilitation/Strength & Fitness centers in Virgin Gym's

Its amazing how well paid Scott Burns was considering our midfield went backwards with him (and player development).

The only reason the mids played well in 2011-12 was because of our press which was developed by the Port guy.

I like your thinking but its easier said than done. As good an acquisition as Stone would be as a specialist stoppages coach I think he'd be more than happy under old mate Ross.

Voss is someone we should definately target and Riley has an impressive CV working with a few different clubs in different roles. Unfortunately I think Burgess has recently signed a new deal with Port but Hancock's record looks pretty good. Better than Warren Kofoed
