that's right. We've seen what Hawthorn can do within 12 months, and many players they got have helped them to their premiership.

We've freed up a s**t tonne of cap space, we need to put the footy world on notice, we need to make a statement.

Sign up big players and get that 2014 premiership.

It's time to step up.

Biggest trade period ever? Yeah, nah. The end of 2009 was a pretty big trade period too.;)

You can't rebuild a team over night, we might be able to top our team up to remain top 6 or even sneak into top 4, but we are realistically a few years off another crack at a flag and should treat this trade period properly.

No one over 26 years old thanks.

Eddie betts, Jessie white (Walter pinkman), Mumford, and chapman all locks I hear.

Mummy = GWS or stay at Sydney, will not leave NSW
Betts = Adelaide, we won't touch him at that price
White = Yes, cheap hopefully
Chapman = Lions or Suns

Yes we saw what the Hawks did after last year. Time to sign up a player looking for a premiership. Load up. Load up..... we need to make a statement. We need to make tv commercials and really make a big one. We need to tell the world that we're coming. Forget the rest of the crap. Get the players out telling the fans about the statement...... and then buy a brain

Who should we sign up thats available?

Paul Chapman and James Podsiadly for starters.

Taylor Adams could be considered if we want another quality midfielder. Mumford same if he requests a trade back to Victoria. Patrick Karnezis I'd be happy to see in black and white if we can make that happen.

Aaron Mullett if he could be had for Heath Shaw would be a great get as a back flanker. Or George Horlin-Smith from Geelong. A first round draft pick would also appeal.

So there are some guys out there. It just takes some savy recruiting. And not picking up Jesse White is another key to a successful offseason.

Knightmare people are talking about a big free agency/trade period but I don't see ANYONE in the market worth buying. White will not change anything nor will Chapman. We cannot afford Buddy. If we are allowed to cash up for next year's free agency/trade period would it be better? Is anyone big out of contract/in free agency next year?

Don't see many 'big players' amongst that lot.

Can understand Chappy, but Pods?
He looked shot in the prelim. Not to base it off one game but if that's any indication of how he's going to play here on out seems odd.
He looked like a Chris Dawes 2012 clone.

We will land a few senior players from other clubs. As the OP says, we have freed up our salary cap, and we will be wanting to use that money. If we go for youth, that is great for the future, but it doesn't eat into the salary cap money we have left over. We need to pay someone the wages of Jolly, Didak, Johnson, Krakouer and possibly Shaw. That is a lot of space considering these guys signed up around the 2010 season. That is five senior players wages, to be used on five senior players. The youth will come with delistings of Russell and the more to come like probably Gault and a couple of others.

Critics may have said the same about many of those recent Hawthorn savy recruits. Josh Gibson, Brent Guerra, Jack Gunston, David Hale.

Shaun Burgoyne and Brian Lake as players in the latter portions of their careers.

Sometimes that's all it takes and Sydney, Richmond and Hawthorn are recent teams to build pretty strong teams through savy trading.

If we get the names right that's our best chance of winning with this years draft not so strong and not so deep.

Not every team can expect to take Gary Ablett or Lance Franklin as free agents. Few clubs have that kind of salary cap space and that's pipe dream stuff in reality with movement of stars and stars in their primes rare.

Podsiadly if you watched the finals series that was the worst of him for the year with those last two finals the only games for the season where he didn't achieve 10+ disposals, and surprising that he didn't manage a goal in either performance.
He was drawing the oppositions no.1 defender and Hawkins' back gone and seemed to be carrying injury late season also which didn't help. But the rest of the season his performances were strong.

I still value Podsaidly's game. As a late starter at AFL level getting drafted at 28 he has the ability to play on longer than others. He hasn't had injury issues and hasn't sat out for any period of time playing 18+ games in all of his four seasons in the AFL. His game at this age is still of value isn't predicated on athleticism. He is a marking presence with a real vice like grip with those super strong hands he has overhead and he is a physical 1v1 beast which is something you don't lose overnight with big guys not getting any smaller with age. But in saying that earlier in the season he took a big specie so he hasn't lost his athleticism. I don't have a whole lot of questions about him as someone who like Chapman would be a walkup best 22 guy.
As a second option playing alongside Cloke in a similar role as he played playing as the second option to Hawkins at Geelong he can still take 90 marks and kick 30 goals from 20 games which is plenty and a better investment than Jesse White would require a second round to acquire and won't provide half the same presence J-Pod would.

The difference between Dawes and Podsiadly is massive for those who watch him regularly. He's got more Cloke than Dawes with his hands overhead even if he is a 32 year old version.
