There is a thread asking what your clubs finest hour was. I thought it would make for interesting discussion in this boring no footy weekend.

I have said the 6 in a row in the 50's. 6 in a row in any competition is a phenomenal feat.

Others in contention IMO would be the Australian Champs in 1914, entering the AFL in 1997 and winninng the AFL flag in 2004.

What do you guys think?

"doubters; shove it up your arse" lol :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Thanks TSW, I havent watched that in a while and it brought back some great memories. Actually I have had a shit couple of days and that really cheered me up.

Lets hope we can do it all again soon!

No problems mate!

There are a few things that can cheer me up, this is one of them!

Last years Richmond Vs Port final few minutes always does the trick aswell.

And Miranda Kerr.

I think it was Churchill who used that phrase to extol the efforts of the RAF during WW2.

In a football context Paul Bagshaw said something similar on the victory dais after the 1976 GF. Oh the agony!

Funny that, I cringe slightly when I hear those words, "the finest hour" because it reminds me of Bagshaw & the Sturt FC and how they had to wait another 26 years for their next premiership in the SANFL.

Yep, there are just too many "finest moments" in the history of the PAFC to be sure.

As far as individual seasons go, the 1914 team is right up there. Undefeated, crushed North in the GF by a whopping margin - especially for the era - of 93 points, before backing up with wins over VFL premiers Carlton for the Champions of Australia title by 6 goals (25 scoring shots to 11) and a lazy 10 goal shellacking of an SA league select a week later, for an overall record of 16-0-0. Marvellous. Read more about them here.

Era-wise, the outstanding backs against the wall threepeat of 94-95-96 - going into the decider as underdogs on each occasion - to cap off our time in the SANFL was magnificent. A real exclamation point on our sheer dominance of the local competition.

2004 is the obvious pinnacle however. Although there's always the bittersweet realisation that to only snag the one flag between 2001-7 was a supreme letdown. 2-3 flags was what the Tredrea/Wanganeen/Primus/Cornes era was worth, at least. We exist to win Premierships, after all.

To me, finest hour eludes to a single match, as opposed to an era as such (otherwise the 6 in a row would win hands down) so given that, id have a tie between the 1994 grand final and the 04 grand final.

94 due to the defeat of one of the heaviest backed teams of all time, falling that far behind, the heroics of Scotty, Wakes and Nippy....truly one of the greatest wins the club has had.

04 due to the first one in the big time.

Hopefully 2014 brings similar joy :D

I was at both GF, but 94 GF was amazing, I was there with 5 Eagles fans, oohhhh they weren't happy what a day that was. Where is my mate Pecker :)

this!

94 was amazing
i was surrounded by Eagles supporters shoving it up me at 1/4 time... about 2 hours after that those same Eagles supporters copped a barrage of abuse from me as they walked up the steps towards the exit

04.. needs no explanation.. first premiership in the big league

Not quite but you could be forgiven for thinking so. Because after Dunkirk when everyone was waiting for the Germans to surge over the Channel Churchill declared the Battle of Britain about to begin and said, in part ".... Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves, that if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, 'This was their finest hour.'". In the end the phrase 'Battle of Britain' became synonomous with the RAF fighter defences preventing the Luftwaffe from gaining air superiority, and thus preventing an invasion.

Anyway with that setup I think our finest hour was our initially failed attempt to move into the AFL. It marked the beginning of the Battle of Alberton, a battle we eventually won. Winning flags is sweet but it is bread and butter stuff for a sporting club. No other non-Victorian football club made it intact
into the AFL.

Thread should've started and finished with this video.
Sorry TSM but I refer to my previous post. That was just one more GF out of many.
It was fabulous (I was there) but it's only because it was recent that people are putting it in. It wasn't a grudge match, it wasn't David v Goliath. If you are my age or older and want to pick a GF we have had much more important ones.
