I disagree. AFL > SANFL.
You really, really show a lack of perspective.
In the 60s as a kid I used to pull the cork liners out of coke bottle caps to see which footballer was under them, and then stick them to a card. The magnificent Port Adelaide teams of those years would have laughed at only one GF in a decade.

Not quite but you could be forgiven for thinking so. Because after Dunkirk when everyone was waiting for the Germans to surge over the Channel Churchill declared the Battle of Britain about to begin and said, in part ".... Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves, that if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, 'This was their finest hour.'". In the end the phrase 'Battle of Britain' became synonomous with the RAF fighter defences preventing the Luftwaffe from gaining air superiority, and thus preventing an invasion.

Off topic I know but thanks for setting me straight.:thumbsu:

Can I assume that you are either a military history buff or a big fan of Churchill?

I like my history in general, but it nearly always comes down to military history in the end. One of the great benefits of getting Foxtel for the footy was the History Channel.
Churchill? Like many I have very contradictory views. On the one hand a prime example of why everyone should have followed the French and guillotined their aristocrats. Kept gaining various levels of political and military power and then losing them. A depressive drunk who played with men's lives like toys (the totally unnecessary Gallipoli anyone?). But with normal men and normal political processes failing in 1939 he fell into place as Prime Minister and it's hard to imagine anyone else could have led the British Empire like he did.
FWIW he did make a speech with a famous phrase praising the RAF '...Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few...' for winning the air war component of the Battle of Britain.

Agree - AFL >>>> SANFL.

While we all want the SANFL success frequency, we are up against many clubs with much more in $, supporters and resources and in a competition which is designed to share success. I have been reasonably happy with our "success" in the AFL - I am realistic about the journey so far.

if this is what Jack really said then he can go get stuffed!

Jack has a bit of a reputation of saying different things to different people about the same topic for his own benefit.

  2. The last twenty minutes of the 1990 SANFL Grand Final.
  3. The last twenty minutes of the 2004 AFL Grand Final.

Well it wasn't a fun ending for him, being rolled by Choco. Virtually simultaneously Tim Ginever was leading the new PAMFC to 2 flags in our old colours. You can forgive people with his history (Bob Clayton too) for struggling to absorb the AFL identity.

An hour that took place over 27 years. Clever.
