Why do I have to choose just one ?? co captains could work. However, with that said carlton are developing leaders at each line and that, is more than enough for me.

Still think a club needs a captain.

Melbourne tried their "young co-captain" thing and it failed miserably. Not to say it can't work, but the only reason I can think of to implement it is to avoid making a decision that might upset someone - which is about the worst reason you could possibly have.

One captain, supported by a solid leadership group. I don't think we even need a vice captain - keep the other "leaders" motivated and engaged by allowing any of them to step up when the captain is unavailable, based on merit.

In 3 years time:
Captain - Sam Docherty
Leadership Group - Patrick Cripps, Jacob Weitering, Ed Curnow (if still best 22)

With another one or two spots still undecided for mine.

I'd love for Ed Curnow to at least be in the conversation for the role

Has all the important characteristics for the role

He's Selfless, He's the modern footballer that works both ways.

With the amount of pressure already on him I wouldn't want Cripps to be captain any time soon. Docherty feels like a better option with Crippa as VC.
Maybe give it Cripps in the 2nd half of his career if he progresses the way we hope.

I think Post- Murph Doc our next captain & Crippa as (vc), but yes great to see there are quite a few who warrant to be our next captain& vice captains:thumbsu:;).

Who asked you! :p

Absolutely no rush to replace Murph, he is an excellent captain, doing a fantastic job. But once he decides to step aside, it's Weitering for me. Doc would also be great but I think Weitering is a very special player, a quality individual and already shows more leadership than some of the current captains in the comp.
He will be a Carlton and AFL great. I can't think of anyone I'd rather have leading our club in the future.
Weitering (c)
Doc (vc)
Cripps (dvc)

Doc my pick. Courageous player, influences games, passionate blues man, extremely well spoken and level headed. Will be perfect age when Murph steps down/retires.

Cripps and Weitering great candidates too. If I was nitpicking...I would say

Cripps is maybe too introverted. I see him in the Judd mould. Juddy would lift the team on his back, but I'm not sure he had true leadership spirit. Probably being unfair there. Juddy so much smoother than Cripps media wise (even accounting for age).

Weitering - so professional on and off the field. Can you be too clinical? Captained VC U/18 so obviously has the credentials. Maybe will be too young when the next captain change comes?

Docherty seems to be the better communicator and is basically Simmo 2.0. He'd be my top choice.

In Juddy's book he said that Cousins was pretty much the same as a captain. Lead by example rather than rousing speeches or motivation. I see Cripps being the same as Cousins in that sense, leads by example but can still be "one of the boys" unlike a Judd or Weitering. Would be my 2nd choice after Doc.
