Im a big fan of Daniel Cross. He leads by example on the field, hard at at it and his love for the club is phenomenal. A Smokey and i mean a real Smokey would be Lindsay Gilbee. His love for the club is up there with some of the past greats, this can be seen every milestone game, he is charing of the player, total respect for his team mates. Dont know how much his fellow players look up to him as a leader though. Off field he would be great.

Either way i would hate it if the club/coaching staff decided to go for co- captains. Im a traditionalist a believe you need one figure head representing the club and its playing group.

Definitely believe Big Will will captain the club- but not yet.
Maybe when he is 26 or 27. He is improving in leaps and will be a dominant force in the not too distant future. I haven't heard him speak or be involved in the media, but I hear he speaks well.

Right now it's Murph for me. Did anyone else see him addressing the boys in a huddle after half time on Friday. I think Gia is the other candidate.

Yes I saw Murph addressing the group (on the replay).
I'm also with you about Will being captain in the future. He speaks very well but I don't know if that would transfer onfield to get the players revved up.

I'd vote for a Cross/Griff combination too.

What interests me is the silence around Cooney. People already have the NEXT next captain lined up (Ward), and are throwing Minno into the mix for the upcoming change, but no love for Coons. Has he really fallen away that much?

personally i just don't see Cooney as captaincy material...absolutely gun player, matchwinner but juts not a captain...or atleast not yet.

Murph - talented, smart, intelligent, could win game through his actions.

I agree. Coons could quite possibly be our 'marquee player' for the next 6-8 years, but it doesn't necessarily mean he should be captain...

It's rare that the team's best player is also the best leader.

Ablett jnr will probably never captain Geelong, Buddy will probably never captain Hawthorn etc etc etc. If you look back into the past the list goes on and on too...

I'd personally prefer Murphy, Griffen, Cross, Gia etc

Please don't let it be Gia. Not up to it. Down hill skier.

I think Cross/Griff/Morris/Boyd/Murphy are all ahead of Gia. Doesn't do enough when the team is down. Pops up well when we are not struggling......but never when we are down.

Gia seems to be the front runner atm. Well regarded by the club and the players. Cross, Murphy, Boyd next.

Griff still way too young, inexperienced and inconsistent. Not yet a leader of men imo. Same for Higgins, only a handful of games played. 100 would have to be the minimum, surely.

This year i have only been to 1 game, the Brisbane game (gabba) we lost, the team was down and Gia was one of our best kicked 3 goals and kept us in it.

HE WILL step up next year and become Captain, as i do think Johno will give it up.

one player whos name hasn't poped up is Mitch Hahn's could be???
