Port need a Magpies coach that "expects to win" (ala Andy Uptons song for the Port Magpies played before games from the 70's and 80's) and settles for nothing less. I'm sure Lokan is a good bloke but even when we are not decimated with injuries and have no excuses the Maggies lose games they should win. Then we hear how the other team had more class etc. bla bla bla. As the cradle for developing hardened Power players, it is failing and I'm sick of seeing meek performances and hearing acceptance of good efforts by the coach when the standards for that grading are too low.

Mark Williams would be the ideal coach for the Maggies to teach and develop our younger players but I doubt we could get him to come back in a lower role. Surjan has shown a lot with North, maybe its time to welcome him back.
We're stymied by the fact we have to play the AFL guys in the Maggies to suit Kern's AFL game plan.

The top ups are generally either of poor standard, or are played out of position, to accommodate that scenario.

Also, we would average about 6 or 7 personnel changes every week, which does not lend itself to either continuity or to familiarity in the game plan nor the strengths and weaknesses of team mates. It's too disjointed.

Add to that the limitations on quality and ability of how we recruit our tpp up players, and we will never again threaten to embarass the SANFL by winning a flag.

This year is a portent of the Magpies destiny - until inifinity :disrelieved::tired:

I'm all for Williams being magpies/development coach.

What I still don’t get is why another club would take Hinkley? I’m not one to hate on Ken or think he is destroying us, etc, I just think he has had his chance and been shown to not be good enough. Caroline Wilson talks as if his move to GWS is a done deal. So why would they want him?

GWS is one of the AFL controlled clubs so Ken would be a perfect fit.

Don't care why

Just hope they take him.......:poo:

Okay I know this will have the haters coming for me but just for a second think of it objectively from the other side. I haven’t heard one media pundit suggest Ken should go, this is what I hear constantly…brought the club back into relevance quickly after the tarps, realised we didn’t have the talent after a failed attempt at recruiting some experience and went to the draft releasing Polec (win) Winguard (win). Played the kids and the kids played well. Developed a Brownlow winner, willing to switch it up eg go without a ruckman and still win clearances and games, brought a team back from being decimated with injuries in Round 1 to claw their way back up the table. These are things the media say constantly, that the players love him and that he’s a great “man manager” and has developed past and current AFL coaches Walsh, Voss, Nicks, who have all publicly acknowledged him.

I’ve been a Port supporter for over 45 years which is long enough to learn there’s a common feeling about Port supporters. Apart from the usual stereotypes of feral etc people think we’re irrationally bad losers who got used to winning in the SANFL and don’t understand that the AFL is a much bigger fish. We’re seen as fair weather (tarps). Another club would be interested if they thought their list was better than ours knowing that Ken has had Port at the top of the table for the past two years. He has finals experience and I’m guessing he’s half the price of Clarkson.

Once again, don’t come at me I’m just answering the question.

Not sure why this would get hate, its pretty positive and hopefully this is the sort of thought process that will get a GWS or a Norf to take him.

The other thing is that a lot of this is true. He is a good man manager, he is good at taking a side to being competitive. He just doesnt seem to have what it takes to go all the way and is out of his depth when it matters. He would have been a good fit for the SUNS in 2017 and would be a good fit for Norf in 2023. It just comes down to AFL clubs developing the maturity to do what the Dees did with Roos/Goodwin, and to take him on for 3-5 years, with the final year or two mentoring his successor.

Its unfortunate that as an industry the AFL still uses words like haters and white noise, rather than being able to objectively look at a strategy and the multiple people who are needed in the process to get there.

Hinkley to North makes sense, he does ok with no pressure.
Seeing as Clarko hasn't signed with GWS it can only mean that he has an agreement to sign with us..
Welcome back to PA Clarko..😁

Well the longer it goes on I guess he’s waiting to see how it pans out for a few clubs most likely.

Who knows. Ken will go close to finals I’d say and will be seen as ‘brave’.

The big thing against him is 10 years to not make a GF - that’s all that matters.

I know he's on the nose here (and with me) but if the club is wed to keeping Chad Cornes I'd have him back as SANFL coach.
Chad Cornes is a bully and a toxic influence on the playing group and always has been, dating back to his playing days. He could be the Jock McHale of coaching tactically and he would still be an overall net negative influence on the club. And he ain't the Jock McHale of coaching tactically.

Yes we are irrationally bad losers. That's what actually made the club great. The good losers are still playing in the SANFL.

And yes the AFL is a much bigger pond. But it would be nice to not be a statistically below average performing club on literally any objectice success metric you'd like to use to measure our time in the AFL (finals series, grand finals, premierships).

Nutshell.

Our current club admin seems to have forgotten this, or never really got it in the first place.

I agree with this, but I'm just saying if the club has to keep him, then SANFL coach is his level.

That's a lot of words to say can't coach a team to a GF.

Yup. Being in a more competitive league shouldn't make us hate losing any less.

Lol. So Hinkley, in 1 season, developed Phil Walsh did he?

It's just a pity those that should be offended/insulted, and in my opinion terminated*. Those whose job it is to do whatever it takes to ensure we have the maximum scope for success do NOT seem to grasp the concept of ruthless desire for success.

*terminated from their job
