Treloar couldn’t defend he’s way out of a wet paper bag

I think that is harsh. He'd be an asset in a good side.
The snapper and pickled onion were huge and delicious. So was the scallop. I still have two potato cakes left to celebrate our win! (Can they be frozen to eat next year?)

Nice try Chigaco....

I'm still wondering how/why we got Spangher to be our forwards coach. Nothing against the guy personally, but he had a couple of admin roles in clubland and suddenly he's handed the keys to Marra/Naughts/etc?

I am worried that Bevo’s love of battlers is/has creeped into the coaching box.

Am I right in thinking if tigers and saints lose 2 of their last 3, we can still mathematically scrape in to the finals?
You are probably right but what’s the point? I’m not sure getting panst week one of the finals is a better scenario going into the preseason than taking the early break and coming back earlier and developing a new bloody game plan

I said all I needed to say in the game day thread, albeit overly emotive and no doubt without much eloquence. Apologies.

TLDR:

Most embarrassing season in recent history due to negligent coaching.

Complete absence of on and off field leadership when it comes to defensive attitude and gameplan.

Without any substantive change in the footy department this club is betraying the supporter base.

Glad it’s all over tbh. Has been the worst season following this club in recent memory. I’m embarrassed to support this club atm.

I think it's a little premature still to expect Darcy to fill that sizeable gap on a consistent basis, but he's definitely handy to have available alongside Jones. I really hope Keath is playing injured and this isn't his level now, to give us hope he'll return back to his best next year.

More than anything though we need to stop the regular midfield dominance against us that makes defending an impossible task. Plus it feels like we concede more scores to the 6-6-6 than any other club.
My kingdom for a decent midfield coach…..

The fact we have had to recall Cordy as a key defender is a blight on Sam Power. A do or die clash, and he’s the one we are relying on? Lobb absolutely destroyed him. I’ll never understand that play where rather than following him on the lead, he sat back to defend space. He can never play again

Put this down to our much vaunted midfields inability to stay in games for long periods, their inability to swing momentum back in its favour and their diabolical skills by hand and foot today. As well as a general looseness across the ground that often had players guarding grass and not an opponent.

As infuriating as all that is. Its the diabolical way we we set up at stoppages that seems to give free reign to our opponents with an open avenue towards goal. Along with our inability to handle teams intent on pressuring our ball carriers, for me has been the glaring issue with our side all season. Why Beveridge hasn't addressed or found a work around for this just beggars belief.

Its been a constant be it at centre bounce or stoppages around the ground. This leads to some of the easiest inside 50's with forwards leading straight at an unpressured ball carrier that any team will ever see. Contrast this with the shambolic, often wide, over possessed and crab like manner in which our forwards have to work with. Its little wonder that Lobb was on world record pace in the first half. He was getting some of the sweetest delivery that any forward could possibly ask for. Even when forced out towards the boundary. Once again seeing the key defenders got slaughtered by our midfield. The only thing that changed after half time is that Lobbs kicking went a little off and Freo shifted to other forwards leading straight at the ball carrier or standing on their own.

They had plenty of options.

Oh, and the giving up of 5 metres on the mark can get ****ed. There was an example in the 3rd where Keath was forced to stop reassess and then kick the ball short and wide. Why was this you ask rhetorically? Because Taverner wasn't dumb enough to give him 5 metres of forward momentum. If it aint broke, dont try and reinvent the ****ing wheel and turn it into an aeroplane.

The game that sums up the season,
Bevo outcoached
Defence resembling a sieve
Midfield getting beaten
Forward line ineffective

The lack of any improvement in most aspects from Rd 1 is the most alarming, coaches and sekectors have a lot to answer for. I see no other team flipping the magnets as much as Bevo, maybe he’s flipped one too many?

Yep, baffling decision.

It’s a forward line that relies on talent (which there’s plenty of) and the occasional midfield surge when we lock it down there. That isn’t sustainable.

Get an ex-creative forward into the club. Stevie J, Nick Davis etc, someone that bring some cohesion.
