Went out to Greta's ground today and words cannot describe the improvement to the surface!!!:thumbsu:
Don't know what other grounds are like at the moment, but it is easily the best O&K surface I have seen in the last 5 years!!!
GRASS cover ALL OVER the ground. Maybe 3-4 (2-3m) "patches" around the pitch area and far wing.
Credit to the ground staff out there and I'm sure many clubs will be surprised and happy to be playing on such a great surface.

Must admit TGN that looks good, what type of grass/es were sown......Can we expect a kaleidoscope pattern rolled onto the grass TGN......"Guns will think he's back at Victoria Park":D:D:D

Not really sure Slim. Will see if I can find out for you.
Heard a whisper that a lock of "Guns" hair was sown and it just took off:D

I remember hearing last season that a bore was dropped, but the club were waiting on a permit to take water from it.
And after the 120mm we had over the last few days, there are no signs of puddles or muddiness, which bodes well for the winter.

Looks like a lot of work has been done on it over the pre-season and the people that worked on it should be congratulated.

NEARLY looks as good as ours. Can't wait for the Chronnie back page coverage, complete with a photo of "GUNS" giving the centre area the car key test......Hint,hint Nonch, lift your game mate..:p:p:p

It does look good - but if you take a drive around the countryside you will see that 95% of grounds in the area are looking that good.
Amazing what a bit of rain will do this time of year.

Mind you those photos do bring back a few memories.

Have the two buildings to the left of the main clubrooms been there all the time? My memory is starting to fade. I can only remember the changerooms and the function room.

I must admit TGN, that I was a bit skeptical when I read this. But after seeing the pics I'd have to agree. Although I haven't seen it in person, based on the images the ground looks amazing and saying it is a massive improvement is an understatement. I think clubs will be looking forward to playing there this year. Thanks for sharing the pics :thumbsu:

You're definitely right Sparra. Most of the grounds will be in great nick for the start of the season. This hasn't been the case for a few years.
And thinking about my statement, "best surface in 5 years", I do recall that North Wang, Tarra and Whorouly have turned out some good ovals in the past.
I guess I got a little bit excited/surprised when I saw it, although I still say that it is right up there.
The good thing is that after all the rain, there were no wet/boggy patches and the grass cover is ridiculously good ALL OVER the ground.
Will be good for the boys to get out there tonight and test it out!

Chris Dunne. Drafted to North Melbourne in the late 90's but did a knee early on and then subsequently got delisted, moved onto Footscray but don't think played too many games. Was a class above in the B&D and will thrive in the improved O&K. Saved the blushes in 08 when he single handedly stole the flag from GBat. Good bloke to boot also.

Chris Dunne is a gun and I think will be in the top 3 players in the league. I can't see Bonnie Doon Making the finals this year the difference in standard especially at the top end of the scale is quite large. In saying this good luck to them and all the new clubs, should be an interesting year.

Talking to the Voilet Town guys today during our praccy match....They also are in desperate trouble for 3rds, weren't able to get a side together today...The problem is huge and wide spread

The ground surface has been upgraded so that the Cricket Club can play A grade out there next season instead of at Galen College. The football players will indeed benefit with the better grass covering and the turf laid in the middle, instead of a raised, covered concrete pitch. :D

Yeah it's a pity some of the others weren't able to follow Greta's lead....How many of the concrete pitches still get used on some of the grounds that have them
Ours has been covered up since the Sunday cricket finished but has been used this season by greta whilst they were preparing theirs i asume. We owed them a fav from that mystery goal post incident a couple of seasons ago.

maybe planning on playing for Tatong for the first few rounds collecting as much $$$ from them as possible then when the club gets sick of him not training and going missing for weeks on end, he might try to head back to Moyhu, who from all accounts have recruited pretty well and may not be as accommodating toward the booze swilling bigman?
