Wouldn't be good to see teams fold, but maybe the clubs need to swallow some pride and merge! Seems to be the only viable option unfortunatley. Wonder what will happen with the draw and if the league have a back up plan if any teams fold at the 11th hour

Lets hope they can get it together, alot of people are working hard to keep there clubs alive and it would be a shame if it all fell appart at the last minute.
Given they make it through this season i believe it will be a bit of a wake up call for a few of these clubs and they may look serously at merging as im not 100% sure they understand what they are in for this year.........

I keep hearing Moosh that at least one club is waiting for us to pick the teams for Rd 1 and then hopefully pickup the stragglers ....

i've heard the same rumours about your numbers and the anticipation of a certain club waiting on what happens with your left overs. surely though you wont have that many missing out on a game that another teams survival will depend on it, or do you?!

Would never doubt that Slim! How is everyone going with Thirds, I hear that most clubs are struggling with numbers. Tarra, Milawa, Greta, King Valley & Glenrowan are all a bit light on, can anyone confirm these reports?

From I've heard Pliz the average at the moment appears to be 10-14.....We will have about 18

Interesting comment Slim - Due to the numbers you've been getting at training, when will the coaching staff start telling the lesser players who probably won't get a game that they won't be required? As we know, no matter how many players you have at training, you can only put 44 of them on the park each week. Will the players who aren't getting picked be happy to stay around in case of injury? Or will they look elsewhere? This being the case, perhaps they should be told sooner rather than later if they're not going get a game, so they can go elsewhere and familiarise themselves with other clubs before the season is upon us?

Not sure what the coach's plans are there Dog but I'm sure he'd tell you if you were to ask him.....Your right about only being able to have 42 on the track each week but by the time injuries and unavail's kick in you don't have many to spare so 50 would be a comfortable number I'd imagine. I suppose a couple of practice matches coming up may aid in the decision making..:thumbsu:

I think you may be getting a bit ahead of your self there slim, numbers are good but i think once the season gets going we will only have and handful of blokes miss out each week, which i think i can be managed without showing blokes the door.
Biggest killer is the ressies getting knocked back to 16 most weeks, you end up with 6 on the bench to rotate through 16 spots bloody hard to give every a fair go.

That's been the case with our ressies over the last few years - our numbers have been very healthy and we have tried to rotate blokes through each week to ensure everyone gets a fair run. You can't have the same blokes missing out on a match each week, especially if they are doing everything right off the field. But as mentioned, injuries occur and blokes get rested which makes it easier as the season goes on. Agree that it makes it tough when the opposition can only field 16 players.

As for our thirds, we've lost a fair chunk out of last years side due to age. Should be a new look side but numbers are OK at the moment.

Sorry Moosh I didn't put that as well as I should. I was suggesting that you need at least 50 on the list to be comfortable...And the practice matches etc coming up will help decide those selected week 1, not suggesting at all that a cull should take place.....Players are too hard to come by as we well know.

So Blacks seniors maybe playing against some of the reserves players they have discarded, if they were to do so.

Or are some of those excess numbers at blacks only having a run around for fitness. A few may not even be available for selection when the crunch comes?

We have a few "oldies" running around at the moment Sparra but they haven't been included in the nett number of players.

How many more players do milawa need this year also see simmsy is back out of retirement lasted a while that idea

Blacks may have a few blokes to loan to the struggling clubs with the numbers we had last night for the practice match. Bench was over full and a few couldnt make it. Quite a few interested spectators from a couple of clubs down there too.

Anyone know when the thirds draw is going to be made?
