Goorambat beat Barnawartha today by a few points. Apparently Gbat had 4-5 out too. Barny beat Tarra by 7-8 goals the other week!

They will probably win the flag then if they have done that.....
I wouldnt take much notice of practice matches.
They have a pretty easy start to the year with their draw. Lets see how they go against the good sides like Milawa, Glenrowan and Bright before you get carried away.

It seems that no one wants to hear about Goorambat improving....like its an absurdity or something...good luck to them. Do I think they are serious contenders? No, not yet, but if they keep up the current trend they are a chance to end up as one.

After all the talk about who is improving, and the reactions to it, I cant wait to see some of the results this season and see who is talking in july and august, let alone September!!

Think its great Goorambat improving. But have seen sides do this before. Start talking as they have on here before they have actually done anything. They possibly could win the flag this year. Good on them if they do. but lets see where they are in 5 years. North Wang did it and look where they are now. I would prefer to see Goorambat spend some money on there club first before they start getting a heap of players. Im sure they will say it hasn't cost much and I hope it hasn't. But would be better if they spent some money getting the facilities up to scratch before anything. Then when you get good players they may want to stay. I'd be very surprised if they are still competitive in 3 years. Hope im wrong.

Yep agree. It happens a lot in O&K. Some clubs are bucking the trend and hopefully they continue to do so.
But you're right, every year we have February finalists turn into April fools.
I hope for the sake of the league these teams create some sort of sustainable improvement. No one wants to return to having a league that is 3 different levels apart with hundreds of points difference between them.

The facilities versus list investment is always a tricky one. You need both....hopefully clubs have smart enough and professional enough committees to implement an improvement strategy that could see both parts grow in a steady and sustainable way, easier said than done though.

Either way, I'm sure the excitement level and energy out there is high so good on them, enjoy it.
That kind of lift is good for everyone at the club, on and off the field, hope they make the most of it.

it would be good if every club made a decision to abide by the soon to be implemented salary cap and decided to spend the additional money on facility improvements and ground upgrades etc. imagine the satisfaction and enjoyment of every club having a ground surface as good as bonnie doon or the club rooms of bright etc.
10-15k per year committed to facility improvements would see some huge improvements over a 5 year period.

Any word on The Doons praccy vs Violet town ? How'd the new recruits go ?

The club said on social media over the weekend "Great hit-out today against Violet Town. Well done to all involved. Doon looking good for Fridays season opener vs All Blacks"
I guess you can take what you like out of a statement like that.

Belted VT from what I was told with a few handy players out godsmark had a field day off half back.
VT had a few out also.

Bonnie Doon 80+ (Benalla will be competitive, but Bonnie Doon will be too strong & skilful)
Moyhu 30+ (will be keen to take advantage of playing a bottom side first up)
Bright 100+ (too many first pick players out for tarra)
Glenrowan 100+ (KV will struggle to expose them in any section of the ground)
Goorambat 60+ (they will be pumped for their first game after a strong pre season)
Milawa 100+ (way too slick for Whorouly)

So much for everyone talking about the company getting closer. Big margins predicted first up! I reckon most games will be closer than thought first up!
Good luck to all clubs for 2016

I don't think it will be like that all year, just some clubs set better early on. The games this week are between clubs at different stages of preparation.
For instance of you look at Bright vs Tarra, tarra are predicted to be taking a senior side up to bright that has double figures of first pick players out. Any other week that will be a very different game.

Any feedback on yesterdays games?
Looks like greta in for a long year looking at results

Moyhu looked pretty good all over the ground. Smith will kick a lot of goals this year - reminds me a bit of Richie Leahy with strong leading, excellent hands and an accurate kick from anywhere inside 45m.

Interesting that five of Bonnie Doon's best were new players. Greening was best on - Dan Godsmark told me he is his tip for the Baker, so obviously off to a good start there.

Tarra must have gone alright today GIF! From what I heard Bright looked very ordinary, but still...

More problems for Bright with James Love apparently set to join McDonagh at Myrtleford.

I think the story had grown legs a bit with how many tarra players were going to be out, it was more like 4 or 5.

But yes played well and opened the game up in the third qrt. Good start for the year. I wouldn't say bright were ordinary. Only the two goal kickers for the day so may have struggled to get a bit of a spread!
