Yarra - have recruited well and in imo have a slightly better list to last year, although not having Ednie for a fair chunk of the year might hurt. They have a very balanced list with the ruck being bolstered in the off season.
Albury - lost a few, but have blokes returning from injury that will bolster an already dominate midfield. if they lose big Cal that could be an exploitable area. List slightly behind last years but they were a fair way in front.
Lavington - had a pretty ordinary run with injury last year but didn't miss finals by much. May lose Neely but the Hieldberg recruit comes with big wraps. The bushranger players that they have added are quality and if they can add a goal kicker they will be around the mark. List in similar shape to last year but a full year out of K Stevens will be enough to improve their ladder position.
Corowa - have been written off with some of their departures. Carpentar obviously is a huge loss and Taft will be difficult to replace. Two midfield recruits read very well and being ex team mates of Ambrose means he may go around again. Whiterod rumoured to be training with them and his signing would hold them in good stead. List in similar shape to last year, slightly down.
Wodonga - loses easily outweigh their gains to this point and even putting them in 5th might be wishful thinking. Thompson obviously a big gain but the rumoured Hetta deal falling through would be devestaing considering Ohlin has left. List in much worse shape than last year.
Raiders - quality onball recruits, Doolan looking very fit and young Bryant being a year older will see an improved ladder position. The lose of Prior obviously leaves a big hole and their ability to kick a winning score remains to be seen. List in better shape than last year.
Wangarrata - the lose of Hoppy is massive, 40 qaulity posessions each week will be hard to cover and his leadership and the confidence he gives other blokes is something you can't buy. An inexperienced coach, regardless of the opinion they have of him at wang, will not get it right all the time and a slide back down the ladder after a wonderful few years is on the cards. List in significantly worse shape than last year.
Wang Rovers - been very quiet on the recruiting front and its hard to see where the improvements are going to come from. Allen and the Hill boys are getting on and their younger players don't look to have come on as well as they had hoped, but they are very difficult to beat at home and could claim a few scalps there. List in pretty much the same shape as last year.
North Albury - hard to see where any improvement is going to come from with the lose of Horn, Goode and Brain cutting deep. They have been very quiet on the recruiting front and looks like they will stagnate for another year. List in worse shape than last year.
Myrtleford - Coming from a mile behind every other team and without any major recruits it's hard to see how they will stay off the bottom for another year. List will probably be in better shape this year and if they can win a game that would be an achievement.

great wrap there velvet lion

heard from a wahgunyah bloke last night that ferraro may not be coming back to corowa this season due to a change in his work situation. would be a massive blow to corowa if true. not sure how accurate a source this fella is though

Will definitely be a year to see how the clubs have developed theyre juniors seeing as so many clubs have lost theyre big profile players.

Good post Velvet Lion...

Can Yarra or anyone else seriously challenge Albury?

Lavington perhaps? who is their Heidelberg recruit?
who is their best player?

who do you think has recruited the best over the off-season?

Can confirm schilg going to bb saints 90 per cent mathews going too. But lavi will be still ok they have some great kids coming through understand 3rds are getting good numbers too training also with bushies boys coming back they will be very young and enthusiastic and still got some good old heads playing will surprise alot of sides

Shir won't go anywhere - he's just a habitual offender in shopping himself around every off season so he can "get off" on it. When it comes to the crunch he goes back to his kennel (pardon the pun).

Confirmed this afternoon that Shir has signed with Aspley. You can take your foot out of your mouth now.

when is stan magro arriving in myrtleford?

is he bringing any players from WA with him?

also, does anyone know if shane gaston has definitely gone to SA?

Hang on a little while old Fader boy - Mr Shir himself stated in the paper yesterday that he had NOT actually signed with Aspley at all. But likely to end up there, or somewhere in sunny Qld. So might pay for you to take both of your LEGS out of your mouth fella.

The Bulldogs might be alot the same as Lavington as they have lost a fair chunck of their senior lineup. Have bushies boys coming back and could be a very young side. Can anyone challenge Yarra and Albury if I were them 2 clubs i'd be pretty excited about the season to come

im very confident you will see Shir running around for Aspley this year. From all reports he is a very good footballer and nice bloke too.

both albury and yarra would have to be thrilled with how the offseason has gone for every other club in the league.

noone is going to get near either of these 2.

spargo and ednie's biggest problem will be that they've both got to play 19 or 20 games hoping they don't pick up any major injuries before the grand final.

spoke to a cousin at the Wang Rovers today, says he is confident that they can play finals this year with their current crop.

these are the ins and outs apparently....

outs: tyson hartwig, ben briten, wal richie, jake platfuss

in: justin hoggan, brendan sessions, jesse silver, darcy booth, josh naish

also in talks with a few other potential players and have resigned karl norman and tas clingan

good injections in the forward line with hoggan, sessions, silver and naish, and booth into the midfield. hartwig is a huge loss at chb but should allow a younger player to step up.

not sure how everyone thinks they will stack up against other clubs but they believe they can give the comp a shake

Its obvious why Cupido has signed with Nth Albury after allegedly signing with other clubs, he realised that there is a TAB at Nth Albury and that the coach Punts as hard as he does. Travis Hodgson is kidding himself if he thinks he is going to fool anyone with the comments in todays Border.

Spot on Shambles. Hopefully no "sign on" or advanced payments have already been made. He won't last a full season.

reckon they will be in the mix for a spot in the 5. a long long way behind the top 2 along with 7 other clubs

I think Yarra home and hosed. Albury set to have no big men to look after midfielders. Spargo will have a tough time to find a big man to replace the enforcer.
