Prob a fair point bout most of the myrt boys being ex locals, obviously employment opportunities are limited in the hills.
That's the first i've heard about the raiders effort, if it's true, i'm sure it will be dealt with within the club.
Not good enough! Good comment on the culture BS

Perhaps 'chopsewie' could give us some info on the connections of the yarra travellers to their area. i think he's a pigeon follower.
have nt been back there in a few years since i played. still keep in contact with a few of them when they come down here.which players are you inquiring about?

It may of changed since i was there but most of the travellers are from surronding towns and want to better themselves by playing oandm footy same as myrt boys its good to see two tiny towns one and two spots on the ladder. i dare say there would be a few blokes on a good quid but a lot of the home grown boys would be on a pie and a drink in your comp i think it would be the case for a lot of sides. Is there still a salary cap up there ?

Sure there is a salary cap - its how much is in the cheque book - any balance above $0.01 at the end of the season is a bonus!....

From memory the salary cap when it finished was about $65,000 pa not including the coach.

Dont dont know if its true or not but i had heard that there a few few clubs that are paying almosts 3 times that figure these days. But they are including the coach in those figures ;)

Well if the clubs have got it why not its only promoting football the better your side goes the more people you get at the games and the more the kids coming through are going to strive to be part of the community side In your comp the people take a lot of pride in there clubs . Competivness is a very healthy thing

Cap was scrapped a few years ago, after 04 i think! wasn't working, blokes were being paid extra dollars a number of different ways. obviously cash, Increased salaries if they worked with a sponsor or the club, girlfriend's were being paid $5000 to play netti & i believe 1 bloke was paid with a block of land. it was $80,000 but some clubs were spending well above that and collecting a wooden spoon.

This is speaking bout all clubs in the league.
i agree some of the locals are prob getting bugger all. but some of the higher paid blokes are getting ridiculous amounts of cash. lots at $500+ a game and some would get $1000+. Most will be happy to hold the hand out on pay day, but most are also happy to line up the following season in the same league, but different jumper. They'll only stay if the price is right!

I'd have to say myrt and yarra would be clearly topping the pay lists in 06 judging by the number and quality of players wearing the saints and pigeon jumpers! we'll see what happens in 12 months or 2 years!

I did hear that rumour at the footy too POJ and if it s true that is a disgusting way to go about it Raiders. Very ordinary effort and one I think could sum up the culture at that club.

what a load of crap

Honestly i haven't got a clue, but i'm told that if their bus (which would seat about 12) was to break down on any given saturday morning the saints would be in a spot of bother. I'd say 5-8 travellers, could be wrong!

I'm surprised that the pigeons have more than them.

It'd be interesting to know how many players travel up from melb each week across the whole league! Surely most clubs have some.

There are 10 players travelling from Melbourne to play for Myrtleford each week. Bunn, McKee, Fitzpatrick, Cartwright, Bourke, McNamara, T.Purss, Brown, Watson, Peters.
There are also quite a few players that live and work in Albury/Wodonga and travel, probably around the 5-8.

I have to agree with you on this one RBR!
There is definitely a lot of these guys getting more than double the amount of $$ they are worth! It must make some of the locals sick and its embarrassing.
They (locals) are the heart and soul and also get the rough end with selection some of the time.
But this is the time of year where rival OM clubs can catch the Yarra's and Myrt's off guard and speak so some of these guys about next year.
I have a few mates who play for Albury OM clubs and I can tell you there is two clubs aleady speaking to three Yarra guys and two from Myrt about 2007, but you watch them howl if they decide to leave!!

I think you will find that Myrtlefords pay roll is a lot less than most O&M clubs! There is a lot of home grown talent at the club and most are there to play with their mates! I dont understand what you mean about them howling if they decide to leave?

Great to hear Travis Hodgson is all but over the line with the Hoppers next year.
Who will he bring with him from Myrtleford.
I heard he has a few!

the $$$ tree is surely getting bare at myrt, so i guess any1 who's there at the moment and isn't a local would be a chance to head into town particularly if trav got them up there!

Rumour has it, if myrtleford doesn't grab a flag this year, they'll be looking for admission into the o & k league soon, unless the alpine eagles venture went ahead. with close to 20 travellers this year, it can't be sustained for long. take the coach & 15 travellers off the list and they mite struggle for a squad.

Could happen even if they do win it!

Sorry Scope to give you the bad news but i hear a Hodgson has already signed. Dunno why you are bagging out the myrt boys. I think it is good to see them at the top of the ladder and hope they carry on with next year aswell.

CJS, I agree its good to see teams like myrtleford and yarra doing well, particularly with the small populations they draw from. It's good for the comp, as for the last 10 or so years the Alb/Wod teams have dominated with the roos jumping in for 2 flags.

All I've been suggesting is that these clubs will struggle to continue to be at the upper end of the comp. If they are able to assemble their current lists within shelling out big $$$, good on them! But i'd suggest it is unlikely.

Most clubs in that situation is most leagues in the country would tend to go through a cycle of boom or bust. They are either scraping the barrel for players (during which time they can save up some cash, but possibly cop a few floggings) or they have talent bursting out of their pockets (Cos the money they've saved is now spent in 1 big hit).

If Myrtleford are in a more financially stable position than i assume, Well done to the club and community.

That many, that 12 seater bus i guessed the other day would be nice and cosy!

I wouldnt be to worried about Myrtleford RBR you seem to know very little about the club and assume a lot of things! To say that they are looking for entry into the O&K shows your ignorance! I think that you will find that ALL O&M clubs go through stages and the bottom 5 is proof of that but your not on here bagging those clubs for spending big in the past and then dropping off!!!

Just shows how little you know and you would probably want to get a new source to get your info off, cause the source that your getting your info off at the moment stinks.....I think you'll find you and your source a way off.

I can't see why anyone from myrt, or any other club would, want to go and play for bunch of green and gold (worst jumpers in the comp by a very long way) parrots like nth albury, and who would want to say that they play for a team called "the hoppers". That whole club wreaks of uglyness.

Anyone got any predictions for this week?

Here are mine:
Albury to beat Yarra in a close one
lavington by around four goals over the dogs
the saints easily over corowa
Hoppers over raiders
Rovers by 8 points over magpies

They are a low team. Won't even go into the oppositions clubrooms afterwards for a drink.
