Nope, heard the final decision will be made by Queens Birthday when hopefully more will be known on easing of restrictions.

From talking to a couple of club presidents there will be no O&K this year this was the decision made last week by the board & clubs not sure of the hold up announcing it. No clubs where interested in going with the 2020 season

Greta returning to training Tuesday and Thursday next week as owe regulations. Cut the ground in half and have 2 groups of 10 plus a coach/trainer not included in the 10 player allowance. Seems easy enough to manage. If more than 20 show up send the extras on a run and rotate groups.
Enjoyed reading you guys argue all about the salary cap, I think it’s been made pretty clear now that the total cap was halved and will be prorata calculated for the amount of rounds we have. Basically a bit less than $2000 per week in max payments. I think this is still achievable for most clubs even if sponsorship is cut by 60% and canteen/bar by half.

A few senior coaches must have missed the memo.

AFLNEB wants a one in all in approach, I.e no one plays or everyone plays and they won’t be making a decision until next month.

I am curious if these clubs not wanting to play have spoken to their players? It seems leagues which ask the clubs the answer is no play. The leagues who ask the players it’s we want to play.

Of course the players want to play but a lot of the players don’t have their clubs best interest at heart

Rubbish. What percentage of players , male and female , ( yes there is a netball season) , don't have the club interest at heart?
One O & K coach , asked 30 senior players if they want to train , even if no season , 29 yes. Not sure who the odd ball was ! Sick of bull shit from a few posters about money etc. footy players and net ballers want to play as far as I can read the situation.

But without the players there is no club. Probably what the AFLNEB wants to avoid is O&K don’t run their season, players go to another league that is playing and they won’t be back in 2021 to the club that wouldn’t give them a chance.

Of coarse the footy and netballers want to play and all committee and supporters want that as well but not to detriment of the club..Ask the proper question to the players..Do you want to play footy for a half arsed season that might mean nothing with no crowds to support you and see the club lose Thousands of dollars, or have the season off and get ready for a fair dinkum season next year..

That would be an appropriate solution considering that we are still in the unknown with cov19
And they still don't even no if the vfl will go ahead let alone the onk

Totally agree. Why play a season when there is no crowd. Which means no gate takings, no bar, no canteen and no functions. The clubs can not run without a form of income, for sponsorships will be reduced. Just start fresh in 2021. Hopefully by then businesses are up and running and maybe back to what is a normal season. Players will want to play but that comes at a cost. There is league fees, umpire fees, paid players, utility fees and medical supplies.

You have stated (no crowd, no gate takings and no income) IF this was the case then obviously you’d be correct, but it’s not.
Your view is a bit dramatic.
The restrictions are being eased quicker than originally anticipated, a season could still be viable. Clubs could get by comfortably with reduced crowds, let’s not underestimate how many people need to come through the gates to pay out $770,000 (assuming all clubs pay out the cap) The admission fee of all netball and football players alone would cover game day cost. If clubs wanted more profits just increase the entrance fee by $5, this coupled with $0 match payments, and raised canteen prices would be more than enough. Clubs are already generating money with in-house raffles, sponsors are still there ect.
The league has access to the government subsidies for loss of income, they aren’t going to sting the clubs the same administration fees as a normal season.

Too much risk! Could be a 9 week season with 5 of those rounds without a crowd. Say they have restrictions of say 50-100 people. That’s less than just the players from both clubs in all grades footy and netball, let alone volunteers and committee and spectators. It won’t be possible. You would want to start a season with knowledge of exact timelines on restrictions. Will lose more clubs than just Glenrowan for 2021 if they try to start a season

I may be wrong but I think when we talk about a season returning we should be thinking of the scenario’s of a season returning with crowds.
Of course if there is no crowd it won’t go ahead but I think all the planning is based around the hope and possibility that the improvement in the situation will lead to crowds being allowed sometime soon.
The questions assuming crowds are allowed then would be - would you play if it was a 9 game season? Do you want to watch your team play a 9 game season? Will it be hard for your club to prepare for a shorter season?

There were some valid points in an earlier post about slightly raising a few prices which could help.
This is a “Big If” but if players played for nothing and clubs could collect income from gate and canteen at 4 or 5 home games plus a good fundraiser they could actually have a reasonably positive financial boost to finish the season.

Surely there won’t be a season. Is it really worth it for 9 games? I don’t think the clubs will profit given the extra costs for keeping everything covid safe. Extra cleaning etc. it’s all good and well to just say well let’s put the gate price up and charge extra for canteen food, but the fact is some people have been hit hard financially by covid and won’t be able to afford to pay $15 to go and watch a game of O and K footy and get charged another $15 for a pie and drink.
For me it seems like too big an effort to get a season underway for 9 games.

I agree It is a big effort and is more than likely not going to happen, but financially it would have been fine for all clubs.

The earlier arguments were on the basis that things get back to normal so nothing changes from 2019 but only half the amount of rounds. Unlikely Victoria would get to that stage in time for it to happen but let’s say we do. Almost every single player would love to get back out there even if it were for only 9 games. What we’ve been through is unprecedented and has done more to everyone than hit there pockets. Not only do people need/deserve the mental release but the social and physical side of things are a must for some.
Again I’ll say it’s unlikely to happen but if everything fell into place I still believe that 9 rounds is a long enough and fair enough season for all and hope it happens. Clubs will be financially strong enough based on the fact that everything should be back to normal before country footy returns and with the cap reduced would help substantially.

With the discrepancy between the top and bottom sides, 9 games will sort the ladder out in the exact same way as a normal season, there was never a question of fairness.
Milawa wins against Bright again, north wang stay anchored to the bottom and 3rd to sixth aren’t a real chance, this year would have been pretty mind numbing.
If there is no play at all this year, 2021 might be a different story after another summer of recruits and departures. If Moyhu and North Wang hold on to all their new signings it gives them another summer to build on that.
Milawa’s money men may not return and we could have a more open field.

Disagree with your opinion of Nth Wang staying on the bottom. Nth Wang will improve a lot over the next few seasons in my opinion. They have a first class facility, a playing group that are excited and most importantly a coach who’s keen to get the best out of his players. They’re coming from a long way back but they’re certainly in a better position than you’re old mob up the Hume.

They’ll improve no doubt, with Smith at half forward and Shanley floating around. Gotta respect Colman for not just jumping on Milawa’s coattails like some others have done.
But let’s not forget a team that is in recession and struggled to field a side beat them comfortably.

I was talking to a young guy on our job site last week he has gone to nth Wang and he said they have recruited well so they should be better

Smith Shanley Ladgrove x3 and Jamie Berry in the forward line would've created some headaches along with a Tasmanian State league medal winner in the middle with Cowie Bowen Pritchard Noble Kay Dale. Solid down back also with Cutrona Williams Hooke Knights.

More than respectable outfit put together IMO. Was looking forward to watching my mob play them round 1.
