What do you guys think about Albury next year? Still a decent chance of winning it?

Koehler and Daly are big losses, and Bush was still quite handy.
But Carroll, Shir and Polo look like they will be guns.
Maher is back, but Carey is out indefinitely.
Fowler a year older, but the young kids are as well.

Hard to gauge!

Don't forget they have also picked up an all Australian ruck man wells I think, will be a comfortable second at this stage I would think

Lets not forget the Hoppers did finish rock bottom last year. Getting abit excited with top 3 I think[/quote]

You would assume they've definitely got Bulldogs, Corowa, Raiders & Myrtleford covered. At this stage they are chasing Rovers, Wang & Lavington to finish top 3. Not beyond a side that contains Gram, Akermanis, Prior, Leslie etc

Correct, Wells will be a huge plus, and recruited big man, Ryder as well. Add Carroll, Shir,Maher and Polo plus their
up and coming youngsters...... the Tigers will be there come finals time.

Yeah, maybe a 4th or 5th placing....

Any thoughts on whether Raiders are a chance to play finals following 3 signings from Melbourne? I still think they'll struggle, certainly lost more than they've gained. Won't be able to cover loses of Rose, Davies, Stretton and the rest. Long year down at Biralee, possible spoon for mine.

Spoken to a mate in Melbourne and follows Northern Football alot. That league is very strong with alot of ex afl players in it. He said the 3 guys will be very handy but I can't see them covering all the loses. But by the way Raiders are talking still have plenty of cash and good on them for signing these guys for 2 years.

Heard Wodonga has signed a returning ruckman ?? Does anyone know who this is?

Dean Limbach is clearly the best of the three from NFL.

Maybe the locals should see it as a challenge and work harder!
Make sure these blokes really earn their spot each week!

Problem with that is the club wont be paying the big $$$ to sit an ex afl ruckmen in the twos, pretty hard for a local to push their way into the side when positions are already locked down for travelling recruits.

I don't that will be the case. He isn't called MR September for no reason. He'll play a few early ones struggle and give his spot to a local . Come end of season be fighting fit and the local will go back to the 2's and win a flag. The postive I can see that the local player can learn a fair bit from these other non local guys !!!

Wodonga has signed a few more which is good but still will struggle.

gotta agree with MC-forward50.. it wont matter how hard the locals work or how well they perform in the two's, your not going to take the spot of a paid player who travels from melb. thats just the way it is at all levels of footy.. the only spots the locals will be fighting for are the spots of other locals
and reggierays on the money, couldnt see ottens playing more than the required games to qualify for finals... travelling from geelong to yarra isnt the shortest of trips, and with the bad back he had towards the end of his afl career, the car trip up wouldnt see him pulling up all that well

Yarra's taking the piss now are'nt they?
Find it amusing back page one club can afford 7ex AFL players and the next page in corowa struggling to field sides
Something needs to be done, but what? I don't know
points system? I think a couple of VCFL leagues are using it....WA country football is using it too I think....can't control salary caps in country footy so should adopt the points system

and that's where the damage is being done. no one will want to go and watch and im only using an example say corowa get belted by 20+ goals and on the same token no player wants to play in that type of game. these lower rung clubs will suffer greatly and to say it goes in a cycle maybe true in the old scale but now with the type of money and businessman involved it won't abate anytime soon. something needs to be done or corowa will end up in Hume league and myrtleford in o and k.

Points systems do not work
why please elaborate for me...I haven't heard a negative from country WA yet....what league has it not worked in that you know of? From my research behind the WA format, I thought it would work well....

Points systems do not work

It only works if the league has the capacity to fully enforce the rulings.

I heard the Hume league uses it, but clearly the hume league cant enforce it so its pointless (pardon the pun) to use it there.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Corowa or Myrtleford out of the O&M in the next few years, they cant keep up with the bigger clubs (spending/recruiting, sponsorship etc), unfortunately it will hold the league back to keep them in the league. In saying that, i dont want either team gone.

What hurts Corowa the most is the country leagues paying depth O&M players more money than they are worth. Corowa cannot justify paying overs for depth players, hence why the twos at corowa struggle to attract players. whereas Albury and Yarra pay some of their ressies more money than some of Corowas senior players get payed.
