Bruce on ABC radio will be better than putting up with James Bracey and Eddie on 9.Put the full story in Track and Field thread but in post #4 above that 9 gave ABC radio some rights, and they will be allowed to cover the Games and broadcast to outside the big capital cities Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. These 4 cities Fairfax Radio owns key commercial stations.
Today ABC announced Bruce McAvey will call the athletics. If you live in one of the big 4 cities you will have to tune in to an ABC country station to hear Bruce's call of the athletics..
ABC radio 594 Sheparton used to broadcast Radio Australia to the world so at night time I have picked that up in SA, Sydney and country NSW and SE Qld and its pretty clear
Veteran sports commentator Bruce McAvaney picks up mic for Paris Olympics
Legendary Australian commentator Bruce McAvaney OAM will headline the ABC's radio coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games later this month.www.abc.net.au
Legendary Australian commentator Bruce McAvaney OAM will headline the ABC's radio coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games later this month. McAvaney was a mainstay broadcaster on the Seven Network for decades, calling the AFL and headlining Seven's Olympics coverage.
Under a sub-licensing agreement struck between the ABC and rights holder Nine, the national broadcaster will broadcast the Games across its regional radio network, as well as ABC Adelaide, ABC Darwin, ABC Hobart and ABC Canberra.
McAvaney was at risk of missing out on calling the Games in Paris after he wasn't included in the Channel Nine broadcast team. However, after hearing about the ABC's planned coverage, he said his wife had contacts in the industry to get him involved.
"My wife said to me, 'Macca, did you know the ABC is going to be involved in the Olympics Games?'," he told ABC Radio Adelaide. "I said 'do you know anyone there Annie?' "She made a phone call and … it sort of all happened so quickly."
McAvaney said it would be a privilege to step back into the commentary booth in Paris. "I did feel a little disconnection, you know, a sadness in a way that these opportunities I've had over the years were not going to continue," he said.
.....
Whateley is calling the Aths for ch9. Bruce will do some other stuff for ABC radio but Im not sure exactly what.Bruce on ABC radio will be better than putting up with James Bracey and Eddie on 9.
Its all about $$$$$.I sometimes tune in to the radio because Basil and co are insufferable on TV.
Really odd they have it on mainstream radio in Adelaide and Hobart but not the bigger cities.
I wonder how long it'll take me to get sick of Bruce's rhetorical questions
I know papers are a dying industry but they usually do a 10 to 16 page type lift out and have schelues and times of the big finals along with previews. Maybe watch out for that.Anyone know if there are Aussie-specific magazines with full schedules, TV guide, profiles etc? They used to sell those for previous Olympics - keen to get my hands on one.
Anyone know if there are Aussie-specific magazines with full schedules
The Dutch seem particularly strong this year. So do the French.Gracenote - the most respected source - has issued its' final gold & medal talliy predictions for Paris.
AUS GOLD - 13 (6th)
AUS MEDALS - 48 (5th)
Australia's highest to date are 17 gold (2004 & 2020/1) and 58 total (2000).
Interesting to look at the tables in this article to show how their predictions have altered over the past year.
