Sarah Sjostrom has won 14 World Championship gold medals all of them in individual events,

Ledecky has won 21 World Championship gold medals 16 of them in individual events,

That's a really cool comparison. A shame Sjostrom hasn't had the teammates to compete with Ledecky's relay golds.

This has to be the most boring race of the meet.

Doubly so when there's such a standout champion.

Is this the last race tonight? Or we got more?

E: Next race in half an hour (I wish this was placed last on the schedule)

The French national anthem doesn't say Marchand, Marchand, but close enough with Marchons! Oui, marchons!

Think they have been changing it when he gets his gold medal. Maybe 2 more times to come? Maybe again in about 20 minutes.

The Ledecky Olympic female swimming stats because either Thorpe or Nicole got it wrong;

8 gold medals - equal most with Jenny Thompson who won all her 8 in relays
7 of them in individual events 200m in 2016, 400m in 2016, 800m x 3 (2012-2020) 1500m x 2 (2020-24) 800m to come
12 medals

She joins the following on 12, Jenny Thompson, Darre Torres, and Natalie Caughlin all of USA and Emma McKeown.

Win a medal in the 800m and she goes to 13.

Just reward for Sjöström to win the gold, to swim low 52s at her age after swimming on the circuit for 15 years is crazy, she’s an absolute freak of nature. As people are commenting Mollie either was relying on getting the same boost off the turn she got in the 200m or her pacing was just totally off. Would definitely hope that was the case as you hope she isn’t mentally fatigued already given the important swims she has to come, 1st time ‘real’ Olympics with pressure for her, Titmus talked about how much she struggled last Olympics after her early wins.

Really interested in how Shayna Jack performs in the 50 now, starting to suspect a bit of the ‘relay specialists’ about her, like at the 2024 World Champs in Doha looked like she struggled to focus and hit her best in her individual swims.

Like with Emma McKeon at Rio in 2016 Meg Harris missing that spot in the individual 100 freestyle is another “What if?” moment, she looked so good on day one in the relay.

This American commentator's cadence is really starting to get to me.
That's the word I was looking for when I had a go at him the other day.

Feels a little strange not to have a champion in the breaststroke
A rare breed in Australian women’s swimming, only 1 great (Leisel Jones) and 2 half decent ones (Brooke Hanson & Sam Riley) in the last 30-40 years. All things going well they’ll get a boost by LA with 15 year old phenom Sienna Toohey hitting her prime but by that stage the lack of anyone that’s semi decent in the 100m Butterfly might become the bigger worry.

Really puts things in perspective of the first few days when you see some slight struggles today even from our far stronger Women’s team.
