Congrats Kyle. That'll be a gold medal in retrospect.
It won’t though, because China will cover-up threaten and bribe everyone just like they always do.
Just look at the Tokyo medals they tested positive and all still have the medals.

Call my cynical, but given the doping cloud hanging over the Chinese swimmers, when someone breaks a WR in a pool that they seem to be struggling to break WRs in... I'm raising an eyebrow at that...

And wouldn't be surprised if he history books eventually show Kyle as the winner...

If the Chinese swimmers are all so doped up and our good bloke/sheila fair dinkum battlers are as clean as a whistle, how do we have double China's medal tally? And how do the Yanks have like 20 medals?

Do you reckon it's the Weet-bix?

If you're not cheating, you're not trying. No point being sore losers about it when someone else manages to peg one back.

Same thing was said after China won the womens 4x200 relay in Tokyo. Look at how that turned out. 2 of the 4 tested positive.

But as I said, officially they still have those medals.

It was covered up denied and everyone was just told “Nothing to see here, move along”.

9 individual men's events and US hasn't won any of them. They have won 1 of 2 relay's.

Marchand has won 3, 5 other Europeans won 5 events, and Pan the 100m.

There will be a Roy & HG style probe and investigation by US swimming and I bet for LA, they find a couple of new male stars, offer Bob Bowman big $$$ to come back and coach the US team and they will be the dominate male team again. Too much is at stake for them not to find answers.

It may never officially be but we all know that they cheated.

The East Germen women were never stripped yet nobody takes their accomplishments seriously.

The same will happen here.

The Frenchman has done something really freaky this Olympics too. No one questioning him though
Probably because for the last 2 years or longer he has been coached by Phelps' old coach Bob Bowman, and Bowman knows how to train a swimmer to take on a huge program.

He won 2 golds and a silver at 2022 World champs in Budapest, and 3 last year in Fukuoka, added the 200m Breaststroke to his program after the Paris OCOG said they would adjust the program and turn what is always an 8 day meet into 9 days.

The US men's situation reminds me of something similar regarding male swimmers in Australia.

So you’d think that mean’s no Gold for any Australian man again in the pool just like London in 2012 and also Beijing in 2008, also means only 3 Australian male swimmers (Horton, Chalmers & Stubblety-Cook) have won Gold in the last 20 years (4 Olympics) 🫤. Both ZSC & Kyle with absolute horrible luck they didn’t add to their’s given the out of the ordinary performances they copped in their events tonight.

So what are we talking here do we finally need that ‘probe’ into our men’s team? Like the one Roy & HG called for back in Athens when only Thorpe & Hackett won gold? It is proving just to be a bridge too far to match other countries male swimmers. Kyle being the only thing close to having another ‘Freak’ athlete swimmer post Thorpe & Hackett and his main event being the most competitive in world swimming probably played its part in not grabbing the gold medals you’d ideally would’ve liked.

Edit further: can’t believe I forgot about McEvoy 🙄🥴

All hopes on him to break the duck on the last day

We still have one shot left to fire, McAvoy in the 50.

But really what did we have before Thorpe and Hackett? We will build into Brisbane so I expect we will unearth some talent over the next 4-6 years.

Just like we built into Sydney, in 1992 at Barcelona we won 1 Swimming gold medal in 96 we won 2. Come Sydney it came together and we won 5, that talent continued into Athens where we won 7 gold in swimming, but it’s really been dropping away since then.

We have very high expectations don't we.

However we do have to take a step back and realize that we are small country competing against a very big world. I believe that sure there should always be a lookout for improvements but you just have to appreciate Australia's achievements as part of a truly global context where everyone else is trying to do the same thing.

Pan's 100m Freestyle victory margin was bigger than Marchand's in both 200m Breaststroke an 200m Butterfly

Nobody is under any illusions about the 100m time, the illusion is thinking everything else is above board.

I mean, if you think the only sauce that Frenchie is on is béchamel, then can I interest you in purchasing a bridge over the Siene?
