So being the nuffy I am, I’ve watched the game a lot.

Speaking of simulation above, it’s amazing to me that you can rewatch a game with different commentary teams. Normally I despise ch 7, BT and basically anyone associate with a ch 7 broadcast. So when I got home I watched the replay with derrrrrwayne, Gerald Healy and the rest.

I thought their commentary was way more exciting and easily pro north.

I streamed the game on 7+ and rewatched it with Ch 7’s view of the game. BT, Selwood and crywvoldt (and the other guy). What a bunch of knobs. There was basically barely a mention of north destroying the dees for the first 3 qrts. But let’s be honest, they are a bunch of knobs so what should I expect.

But some personal favourites were as follows:

Charlie COMBEN

It’s not a hard name. There is no D. There never has been. BT called him Comben once, just the once. Either side of that he called him COMDEN. No body really bothered to correct him.

This must have confused Selwood and Nicky because they then switched to Charlie CONDON at various times.

The other guy didn’t seem to have a problem but was happy not to correct 3 fellow commentators from using various names for Comben.

Interestingly not one person on the Fox commentary used anything but Comben.

Some other pieces of commentary gold from Ch 7 included

- Selwood description of our back line.

“Corr’s been in and out” ….. He has?

“Logue’s played a role” …….. He has? What prior to 2 reco’s and a 1 week
Hammy. Other than that he’s been our no 1 key back.

- Selwood on Curtis

“I really hope he doesn’t loose confidence after his mistakes”…….. don’t think you need to worry Joel.

- Joel and Nick fellating Gawn the whole game. I genuinely think if you asked them at 3qrt time who was better out of X and Gawn they would have given it to Gawn on points. It took Erin Phillips to inform them that it was 12 clearances to 3, a heap of score involvements to not many, and 1 goal v none. Seemed to take the boys by surprise.

- BT having trouble in working out which name applied to which team.

So in summary thank **** for Russel and Healy (and co). They all knew their stuff and tomahawk had his two contemporaries covered easily.
Channel 7 has become a circus.

BT is a lot better on Triple M. So its essentially how 7 wants the team to operate. Boring, unimaginative and getting anything wrong in general. On the radio, they get all these things right and its relevant to the moment.

Lack of competition kills the quality of commentary.

Well thankfully now there is competition and you have options for a ch 7 broadcasted game.

I think peak TV commentary was Cometti and Bruce. Followed by 5 years of Dwayne and JB on ch 9. I also liked Quarters old Ch 10 commentating.

But ch 7 commentary has literally been a mood killer for me for the last decade and makes it not worth watching footy for me.

THIS!

I posted this on the Clarko thread, asking for the screenshot. His mindset is 6 months to 3 years into the future, and already planning what is going to happen next. It's like he knows what is happening now is part of the grand plan and he now needs to take the next steps in his mind and translate that into action and results on the field. That's what I saw in this one look.

I don't care what anyone else says. This is what I saw.
Great pickup ansonholt, and pretty close to the mark in my opinion, notice how there was no fun on the boundry line this time? I for one don't think he was worried one iota about the media if he did that again, to me, like I've been saying for the last twelve months its "the little things" that are going to take place and some will notice them and some wont and this time its centring on Alastair, think about baby steps.

step 1, getting a win with the team that we had, building comradery

Step 2 , get games into the boys, pinpoint our major weakness and strengthen it, learn the game plan {the style we want to play}.

Step3, everything has been put in place but like a father to his children he's there to encourage/help/teach and at times he's there to not blast them off the park if they don't do something right, rather say learn from your mistake, and go over it again and again so the next time that situation comes around it will be a very different outcome. As the year rolls on, Alastair knows to a tee the level we are at and now the serious side of the great coach is going to take shape, the fans /members and players can get excited but you'll see Alastair in what I call the serious side of him, he may or may not say it, but he's very close to expecting things like on Sunday, why?

Step 4, The holy grail, because when we do this, {last year I said we will catch a lot of people of guard and while some questioned that it wouldn't happen I said its already started, you've got to notice the little things which some said in the games we lost that we couldn't keep playing like that because we didn't have the personnel, they were 1/4 right, what we needed was one more draft of top talent, at least three good experienced players, more time together, build confidence, getting fitter like never before and improving our skills} we are going to shock a lot of people.

Either last year or the year before, that game against Fremantle at Marvel was the start of it, when for three quarters we played unbelievable football but got run over late, the result didn't matter in the scheme of things, at this stage of our rebuild it was way to early and yet against a full strength team we nearly did the impossible, I said that this wasn't a fluke and very soon we are going to be something quite different to what we have watched over the last five years. Alastair in his own way has now got to the stage of demanding certain things on the ground as well as playing like a team and play with flair and backing your own judgement.

From that Fremantle game to Sunday what was the difference? Was it confidence, knowing the game plan to a tee, having confidence in your team mates, not to be afraid if we go through the middle and it doesn't work out or its a turnover or maybe just playing our Roo-ball style game plan with such pace + pressure and see how the opposition handle it, its not one of these, its all of them combined, Fremantle got the win that day but they knew how lucky they were, Collingwood the same + a few more clubs, very soon luck wont be part of the equation because what we did to a former premiership team on Sunday is just a glimpse of what's coming and yes Alastair has indeed got his mind on eliminating those little mistakes that happened in the first half against the Demons, why, to get much much better, scary isn't it! ;)

I’ve been milking the hell out this win so far this week, trying to consume as much footy content as possible. The positivity has been like a drug to me. We have to ride this high as supporters and a club because for so long football has not been fun.

I think given Clarko’s measured Presser, he won’t allow the Boys to take their eye of the ball, but the emotion and energy are what really makes it worthwhile.

I have it on good authority that Clarko and Vodd were far from popping the champagne in the players’ room after the win. Acknowledging some outstanding efforts and roles yes, but focussing immediately on the path forward and the affirmation the performance was for the hard work and direction we wish to head in.

Watching the replay (sober) I noticed so many times the player with the ball would not kick straight away out of congestion but would dummy then straighten up on the inside to find a target. So much better and gives the forwards slot more opportunities and also weceetain the footy instead of the dump kick

I thought at the ground that our disposal especially in the back half was light years better than usual - confirmed after watching both the kayo and 7plus replays. When they switched the ball they hit their targets. Live I was waiting for someone to miss one and turn the ball over but it kept not happening, and even better our pressure meant the opposition were the ones missing easy kicks.

And yeah, the fox commentary team was much much better. The 7 version was worth adding for their extra footage and Erin’s comments.

BT is a lot better on Triple M.

IMO that is because the medium does not allow the time for the utter bullshit that the TV does.

On the radio there is an element of having to call the actual play by play of the game. on the TV they can just talk over the vision.

When the TV comentary have an actual sports caller it is noticable. I like both Matt Hill and Adam Paplia for this reason. They are not there because they played football they are there because they are good at calling football.

While we are on commentators. In my house whenever there is a game on and Joel Selwood is making any sort of noise it invariably leads to someone saying his name Matt Damon Team America style. He sounds like he is chewing a brick.

Joel Selwood.

100% accurate despite the clickbaity caption.

A singular data point does not a trend make.

We have worked in the theory of what we could do and be for so long. We have a proof point now and a mountain of work to prove that not only can we do it, but that we can start to do it with some form of regularity.

I’d argue one game is a trend for us 😂

BT and incorrect pronunciation. Name a more iconic duo.

Still remember LDU's debut game. I swear BT pronounced Uniacke about 7 different ways.

Apologies if this has been mentioned in the umpteen (justified) celebratory threads but how Chandler got in the team of the week ahead of Powell is beyond me. Chandler was pretty easily the GoDees best but our man featured in the votes across the board.
Yes, I'm greedy...
Dee-versity inclusion.

I agree, its like it just all of a sudden clicked after half time. It just rocketed into elite status. There was still some serious duff kicks from usual suspects but everyone else just launched into being great ball users. Baily Scotts goal from 55 out from a dart from Kerch (who imo had a terrible day with ball in hand until that kick)
