Thoughts on the pass mark for this year's AFL coaches?

Collingwood - Top 4 (Mick to coach Carlton next year)
St. Kilda - make the grand final
Geelong - Top 4 (some grace for Scott)
Western Bulldogs - make the grand final (Smorgo said or Eade gone)
Sydney - Top 8
Fremantle - Top 4
Hawthorn - win a final
Carlton - win a final (Ratts has been told or gone)
North Melb - Top 8
Port Adel - Top 8
Adelaide - no lower than 10th
Melbourne - Top 8
Brisbane - win 8 games
Essendon - Top 8 (2010 was a write off)
Richmond - win 8 games
West Coast - Top 8 (or Woosha gone)
Gold Coast - win 4 games

I don't think West Coast will sack Worsfold if they miss the 8 as long as they improve and he gets rid of the players letting the team down. A finish around 10th I think would satisfy the board as long as Embley, Lynch, Ebert and A Selwood aren't playing much.

for the lions, it is more then wins...Voss has had a huge negative impact so far on our list.

For a pass we need at least:
1) Resign Rich
2) Resign Leuenberger
3) Massive development in banfield, redden, & Harwood

for a excellent result:
1) The above
2) Final 8 or very close
3) resign M clark

Yeah i agree here. Woosha will be safe if they finish outside the bottom 4. The club's board know where the club's at, so to want a top 8 finish is like GC expecting K.Hunt to be an AA or he's no longer gonna have a contract. 6 wins is a pass.

It's fact make the 8 or gone!

Top 4 is not a pass mark for Collingwood. Also the only pass mark for St Kilda is a Premiership, another Grand Final failure would destroy them (if they aren't already shot after the last 2).

For Woosh I would imagine that they have a slightly more complex criteria than just the win loss ratio, but bottom 4 and you would say he is gone.

From a fans perspective (not that my opinion matters), but less than 8ish wins or below 10-12 would see me give up hope.

I also think the way we win games or the team we play matters (again from the perspective of a fan). Keep up the "bomb it long" approach, maintain the complete lack of forward structure or the old boys nonesense and again I don't think I could keep defending him.

Possibly - if Carlton, West Coast and the Bulldogs don't achieve their targets it is well known those coaches will be gone!

So there's 3 add Malthouse and you've 4!

Disagree with some of what you've postulated.

Worsfold is highly regarded at West Coast and they will be looking for reasons to keep him. If the team improves markedly from last year and shows clear signs of further improvement, he'll be safe.

I'd guess on a position around 10 - 12 with obvious improvement to come and Worsfold will get at least a one year extension. If they make the eight, he'll get two years.

Also Freo. If they finish in the eight, Harvey will be safe. Considering the current injury list before the H & A games have started, expectations for the season will start to drift lower. Further injuries may change that even further.

Of course, if they do make the top four, I'd be guessing at least a two year extension.

Overall, I think you've marked your expectations on the high side. Lyon will be safe even if the Saints don't make the GF. Malthouse is moving on no matter where the Pies end up and Scott is safe at Geelong for at least another year, even if the Cats fall out of the eight (unlikely).

Eade may be in trouble if the Dogs don't go better than last year and Craig at Adelaide may be moved. He has agreed to terms with AFC to adopt roles other than / in addition to coaching (don't know the full details here) but that may indicate he is being looked at in another role. We got half a story in the local rag so I'm unsure where he is at precisely.

This. Absolutely this. If four Grand Finals in three years for a grand total of zero wins is a pass for the Saints than your club's future is in grave danger.

if making the 8 this year was what Woosha's job depended on then he'd have been gone last year.

Worsfold is a dead man walking. The reason why he is still there is the same
reason why Nisbett put a gun to his head to accept the job in the first place.

A rebuilt team with a new coach needs to show it has improved. So Longmire needs the Swans to finish Top 4 if he's not to be seen as a pale substitute to Roos.
