Bloody hell.

Duck, Lethal, EJ and Ablett Sr.

The so called top 4 players in VFL/AFL history.

Lethal aside, the least morally well off players in league history.

SHEESE!
EJ isnt top 4 or even close. Games greatest personality though.

And lethal wasnt exactly moral.

As for any of them being the least moral players thats not true either. Have you heard about what barry cable and carl ditterich have been charged with? Also some full time crooks have been afl players. A number have been involved in the drug trade.

Dunno where the past players thread got to but last night I was flicking through the channels and I saw an ad for Celebrity Amazing Race on ch 10. Guess what? Billy and Oscar Brownless are running in it. I might have a look when it's on

Scarlo went BANG! I forgot Hadyn Ballantyne had such a punchable head!

Amazing vision of the 51 GF

Seeing some of the old time greats in Flanagan, Smith and Davis brought to life is great to see.

This vision needs to be celebrated and not tucked away somewhere.

Bizarre and wonderful seeing all the drop kicks, and all the seated people on the ground itself on the boundary line- pretty dangerous!

Definitely a forgotten player from my perspective.
The issues he described are common, but these issues face millions of men his age without the head start that AFL careers can offer

Billy is probably the most frustrating footballer I have ever seen.
He had everything but simply took it too easy.

If only he dedicated himself, he could have been one of the greatest CHF's of all time.

In hindsight, should have been a defender as we always lacked a true aerial juggernaut in defense.

I think we as a whole tend to undercall how good he actually was. When he first played, he had a pretty serious brachial plexus type injury that limited his aerial prowess and confidence for a while.
Then he always had to play second fiddle to Ablett, mainly, and Exell, Lindner and Stoneham to some extent.
He flourished when GAS was awol, suspended or injured, and got close to 80 goals in 2 seasons, 91 and 92. Pretty good effort. 11 goals v Brisbane in 91 was a brilliant game, as was a final v the Bulldogs when iirc, he had 5 first quarter goals, 9 goals for the match in 92. I think GAS was watching in the stands for that game, as we were sitting directly in front of him, and TV cameras kept targeting him.
Nearer the end of his career, a pretty bad ankle saw him train less, eat and drink more, and he stacked on the weight. I recall Sam Newman getting stuck into him on TFS with similar comments to what you made above.

Blighty went the other way - said Billy should have been entrusted with CHF, not FF, and Stoneham should have been CHB.
